How would you make this cuff?

This is a cuff I'd like to make, only mine will hook into the sleeves of my ghawazee coat and be using fabric from its lining.

I'm going to gather 2 draping pieces into a band, and the band will hook into the eyes, which will be in the ghawazee coat.

My question is: For sufficient gathering/fullness, would you make the material that will gather into the cuff twice the length of the cuff? Or longer?

I'm envisioning two deep triangles with two of the longer edges being right next to one another. All edges except those being gathered will be edged with contrasting bias seam tape made with a gadget from the sewing store.

    Thoughts? Suggestions?

It would depend on the fabric weight you choose. It looks like it's deeply pleated in the photo (at least 2x's).

I think the fabric in the photo, is light weight, and they used a long stitch.

    Pretty sleeves!

My fabric is 100% cotton, like quilting fabric. I was thinking 2x, too.

I'd vote 2-1/2 to 3x... most people don't realize just how much is required for a "nice" gather. 2x is rarely enough.

Don't know what they'll look like with the ghawazee coat that they'll be peeping out of. The coat is made of the black material (bias tape material), fully lined in the green material ("sleeve" material).

-- Caasious, I think you were right. I doubled the length.

    *giggle* Thank you!

Think 8 hooks-n-eyes per cuff w/b enough to hold sufficiently? Or fewer?

The ghawazee coat full-sleeve part comes to my elbow, then has a ... tab that falls from there.

Gee, I have to find my hooks-n-eyes ...

... ooohh and bells for the tips, right??
