Fabric booty
Booty...as in loot. Not fabric on your booty. Though my booty today will be going on my booty ..g.:
I've decided to make some skirts for myself, instead of paying $75+ plus shipping for something ready-made, and see how it goes/how long that lasts ..l;, Got some fabric today I'm very happy about...
The first one is a sheer light green fabric with beaded/sequined floral motif. Very sparkly. I have it over some yellow just so it'd show up better. The bottom edge is scalloped. Plan to make an overlay/panel skirt with it. Don't know if I'm using the right term, but basically a half circle in back and 1/4 circle in front. I thought about turning it so the scalloped edge would run up the side, but thought that'd look too much like a table runner, so that's a no go.

Second is an awesome mottled lemony chiffon with a silver metallic stripe. The chiffon flows wonderfully, this is going to make a fun circle skirt.

Third are two fabrics. A lavender/lilac satin and a sheer dusty lavender/lilac fabric just like the green, except this one isn't as sparkly, the sequins are more muted. The satin will be a circle skirt, the sheer floral will be a panel/overlay like the green.

Last but not least, this delicious piece of sequined sparkliness was $45/yd but I got it for $10/yd on clearance. It's a soft dusty pale pink with sequined flora/fauna motif all along the bottom edge and it extends to random ones up the rest of the fabric. I've a few ideas for this piece. Definitely a skirt overlay/panel of some sort but I'm not entirely sure yet. A few ideas are running around in my head.

Re: Fabric booty
lovely fabrics! Can't wait to see the finished items, pairing those lovely skirts with beaded bra/belt. I have a huge fabric stash but instead of making stuff out of it, I go out and buy more fabrics. Maybe a thread on bhuz would help me focus on dimishing the fabric booty!

Re: Fabric booty
Gorgeous. Those will make lovely skirts. I always prefer making my own. Since I'm so short, I have a hard time finding ready made skirts that fit me anyway.

Fabric booty! Sounds like what a slender friend of mine got when she went to Madame Abla for a custom Samia-style costume. Madame patted her little behind and asked if she wanted "more boom-boom?" The belt came out ruched and discreetly padded.

..l;, "boom-boom", too cute
rassicahl sewing isn't hard, just takes practice. I'm self taught and belonged to an online sewing group about 10yrs ago where I could ask questions and people would share info, that's how I learned. I used to make my own Halloween costumes even.
Used to be worth it or even cheaper to buy ready made. Now with the economy how it is, making it myself takes time but I can do it for half the price.

Re: Fabric booty
Thank you for the tips, Ruya! My mom taught me to embroider and I've made several quilts. However, I have a love/hate relationship with my sewing machine and I have major issues with anything involving clothing. I love the idea of an online sewing group. I'll have to see if I can find one to join.
and I'm a big fabric junkie ;))

Re: Fabric booty
No idea if that particular one is still around, I was part of it almost 10yrs ago. It was a Yahoo group, though, and there are lots of sewing groups on there. Looks like there'd be one for dancers since so many make their own pieces or full costumes.
