How many sequins to buy?
I've been looking at this sight and wondering this amount would cover a whole bra and belt set? I have to cover a DD bra and a belt that would be at least 40"
I like the 5mm size but am wondering what the typical commercial costume uses? I think it might be an 8mm or so??? Should I use the 5mm around the stones as accents?
Q : Would this cover a cossie and am in insane to try this size?
I'm also assuming the slightly cupped sequins will provide the most sparkle?
5mm metallic slightly cupped bright gold 100 gram M5sc26/100 gram
Approximately 13,000 ct per bag $12.00
metallic sequins
Bead Question - The gold silver lined beads are listed as not being washable. I believe that is what i'm using on my current belt project...it it gets sweaty is it ruined? ..cr.:
Thank you in advance for your help!

Re: How many sequins to buy?
Yes! You ARE insane!
But I think it will cover a bra and belt, but it depends on how big they are.
When I bought my sequins, it was by weight.
And how are you going to sew them on?
I sew mine, in straight lines with rocaille beads inbetween.
I personally preferr the cup sequin; wether you sew them upside down (to imitate a 'stone'), or right side up.
Good luck with your project!
:-)
BTW some of the silver lined beads will tarnish...no matter what you do (My Darice silver lined gold and silver two cut beads have tarnished before taking them out of the bag.
There are better beads...but I've not been able to get them, because I'm not a vendor..Last edited by gothique; 01-23-2010 at 10:53 PM.

Re: How many sequins to buy?
Use 8 mm sequins. It will still take you forever, but it won't be as bad as using 5 mm. (I've made a few sets for me with 5 mm, and it sucks on toast. I made a costume for someone else about your size, and I used 8 mm instead. It still took a long time, but the beading did go more quickly with the bigger sequins.)
I like using the cupped sequins; they catch a lot of light.

Re: How many sequins to buy?
I generally use 6mm sequins, although I've used 8 too. Buy the big bag if you're getting them from cartwright.
Regarding the silver lined beads, they will lose some of their silver lining if you soak the costume in water for washing. So, just getting it sweaty will not ruin them. When you wash it, you will notice little silver flecks in the wash water when you're done. Even then, it is generally not ruined. I wash my costumes with silver lined beads. I just try not to do it too often, because the more you wash, the more of the silver lining you will lose.

Re: How many sequins to buy?
You can get 10 mm sequins from Hobby Lobby (or the Hobby Lobby website) in an array of awesome colors. Plus, once a week, Hobby Lobby releases a 40% off one purchase coupon that you can print off if you need to buy more sequins. You get ~750 for about $1.99.
Having suffered through spending 12 HOURS sequining ONE CUP of a small B-cup bra with 5 mm sequins, I finally just said, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! Go 10 mm, hon....you'll be thankful you did!

Re: How many sequins to buy?
I use 8mm for straps sometimes, but feel 6mm is the right size for most surfaces for me.
I think you'd be better off choosing a nice covering fabric and using sequins as accents and decoration...not for the whole surface...if this is new to you.
