costume decoration question
I was watching some dance videos of Sausan's out on youtube (so nice!) and have become enamored of this style of dress:

I love the way this is decorated -- there are paillettes but the dress is not encrusted with them. What is your best guess as to how to get this effect? Are they longish seed bead fringes with a paillette on the end of each? And do you think they're just staggered all over the dress, or...? I would be worried about them getting tangled up. Anybody made anything like this?

Dahlal used to carry those. They are scattered with individual strands of seed bead fringe, and the dresses are made of very stretchy 4-way knit fabric of some kind.
Personally, they make me look like a decorated easter egg, but I have seen other dancers, including larger sized dancer, look very good in them.

You do need to be careful about the strands tangling. Also be prepared to do repairs & reinforce the threads. A little tricky to get on & off without catching. I love that style also, it's worth it. I am tall so I feel very elegant yet earthy in mine & just do some shimmying & vavavoom!

Re: costume decoration question
I know a lot of places carry similar dresses, but I'm fairly determined to make mine, because most of the ones I've found have no sleeves! I'd kind of like the sleeve variation of a fairly fitted sleeve down to the elbow, then a slit on the top of the arm, but the open sleeve is still attached to the wrist by a cuff.
Sedonia, I hear where you're coming from on the easter egg thing. :-D I wonder if having the color of the decorations be close to the color of the dress helps make it more subtle? (As subtle as all over fringe can be, I guess.)
