The "Nipple Detail"
I have a somewhat old-fashioned looking Egyptian costume in which the bra has the ubiquitous nipple detail (large sequined/beaded flowers) in which the center (nipple) is a large jewel. These nipple-jewels each have two thin strings of seed/trumpet beads about 5" long attached to each. It actually had to be brought to my attention that these sort of resembled pasties. Should I remove the bead strands or leave them?

Without actually seeing the costume, I think it would be better to remove the nipple fringe and stitch it in between the cups or somewhere less pasty-like.

Re: The "Nipple Detail"
you could add some more strands and maybe some more crystals around the flower to make the nipple swingers less noticeable!

That does sound stripper-y. How much flexibility do you have to rework the embellishments? Can you match the beads and accent stones to do something different, or are you restricted to the materials that are already on the costume?

Re: The "Nipple Detail"
My 17 year old daughter and I both dance, and we were looking for something cheap for her to wear to her first hafla. We ordered a set from Egypt, and when it arrived, it had the same detailing. She assured me right away that she would NOT wear the top. Maybe it's just whatever you are most comfortable with........?

Re: The "Nipple Detail"
Take the nipple fringe off and see if you can add some design elements to the flowers to make them asymetrical so they don't look like matching targets.

Re: The "Nipple Detail"
If you look at the green costume Shoo Shoo is wearing here, it still has the eye targets, but the fringe is moved over to the side. (Video comes from the article here Shoo Shoo Amin | Belly Dance News & Events - Gilded Serpent, BTW.) Those really long fringe strings are out of style at the moment, but it's an idea.

You could also move the accent fringe to the inside as in this videos from this thread http://www.bhuz.com/forum/belly-danc...n-costume.html. Souheir's costume has fringe across the cups instead of the center designs, but if the outer accent fringe doesn't work, this is another possibility to redirect the eye.

Re: The "Nipple Detail"
It's not that bad. Actually, it looks more niptastic without the bead strings, so I'm keeping them. The skirt looks like Soheir Zaki's green bedleh or Samia Gamal's in "Don't Tell Anyone", which I don't know if I'll have the raqs to wear. It's old fashioned, but no one wears that kind of thing anymore. I like it.
