Sourcing moonstone mimicing bling?
I'm thinking about putting together a moonstone inspired costume and I've only just really started getting into the blingy side of belly dance costuming (versus the SCAdian "Middle Eastern" look), so I don't have a good enough source list built up to know where to go for specific things.
I want super sparkly stuff in clear (or possibly a translucent white) with a blue/purple iridescence (I've been seeing a lot of pink/green but I specifically want blue/purple). Sequins, rhinestones, bugles, seed beads, jewels; anything you can think of that will give that moonstone/opalite feel without breaking the bank on real moonstones.
I may slap one or two large stones on in strategic places if I can find the right pieces and it seems like opalite may be affordable enough to use a fair amount of it. Some short fringe would be cool to source too, but I'm not too worried about that (I'm 5'2" so tons of fringe isn't exactly top of my embellishment wish-list).
I figure I'll use white as the base fabric.
Have you seen something that matches this description? Do you happen to remember the supplier?
Inspirational costume references are welcome as well!Last edited by sterlingspider; 01-28-2010 at 06:05 PM.

Ooh thanks! I usually default to Fire Mountain Gems but a bit of comparison shopping never hurt anyone. ..l;,

Has anyone had a look at Cartwrights Iridescent light grey sequins?
This looks like it would be perfect for what I'm looking for, but without seeing them in person...

When shopping for moonstone, and you want shimmer, make sure you're getting feldspar moonstone, which has a shimmer like tigereye.
I like the OTHER moonstone, the NON-feldspar moonstone, which is duller and can be cloudy.
