Older bedlahs
Can I just say that altering an old school well constructed bedlah is a royal pain!!! My fingers are so full of holes from needle pricks that I feel like swiss cheese BUT the end results are soooooooooo worth it! Beautiful, classic, and classy!

Yes it is worth it. I love working on costumes and have the same problems with holes in my fingers, can't work with a thimble until I found this little patches you glue to your finger, wow that makes a differnce, try it out her is the link:

I just bandaid my fingers up, keeping the padded sides of the bandaids where things hit my fingers. Those pad things sound great!
