Thread: White Mesh Joharah ICU -Body PIX- finally

I wore this last weekend to a stage show (with live music ;-) in El Paso and the hem of the skirt got soiled from the black crap they coat the stage with, so I just got thru washing it. I was so excited to be there..I didnt get any pictures of me in it!!!


The problems -

Small mango shaped bra
Thick support hose yellow mesh
Too short
Skirt too narrow, showed too much leg
Chest band too noticable under mesh from the back view
Not enough upper body coverage because of the narrow straps

The solutions-

Replaced bra with DD strapless from Wallmart and rebeaded the fall off.
Replaced mesh with white net that has holo sparklies
cut off skirt just below hip line
Replaced with circle and a half of same white mesh
Cut off tons of amputated lower skirt beading and made appliques out of them to fill out design elements.
Sewed in a 3/4 sleeve choli of white mesh

Seriously, you have a true gift. Perhaps you should make yourself available to rework costumes for others. I feel so unworthy.

WOW! This costume is stunning.. great job! I do wish there was a before picture.

The process was almost (except for the skirt amputation) like the chocolate peacock rehab on another thread (this is almost done as well). I know the dress belonged to Yasalem, but she sold it to someone who sold it to me. I wish I could remember who it was...cause I have looked all over for the old thread for the before pix. The dress makes me feel like the Grand Duchess Of Belly Dance. We are doing a bridal show in March and I hope it will be appropriate to wear it for that performance.

Well, if you were to do sewing for others the funds could be added to your costume budget. Sorry, I know it isn't logical but it would be grand to have your skills available to the sewing-challenged on Bhuz. I imagine it would also add to the Swap Meet sales.

I have about 50 hours into this...let me see...at 10 bucks an hour....thats...the price of a new dress!!!!

The dress looked so beautiful on Anala, it glowed in the dark back stage area. we called her the belly dance fairy :-). perfect fit really flattering.
I am so glad to have such an awesome mentor and friend.

That sounds like me! I love to "cannibalize" stuff & rework to make a new look also, plus I am leggy with bustiness, so it's hard to fit. So I had to learn to alter stuff and then discoverered how much fun & satisfying it is... but as you said ...uh 50 + hours at even $10 hr = !!! plus we know worth way more than $10 /hour!!
