Thread: Pre-made trims

Hi Ladies!

I was wondering if any of you had suggestions for pre-made trims and/or embellishments. As much as I would like to do things by hand, with a full time job and a 10 month old, it's really not realistic for me to do so.

What I'm really looking for is a resource for things like small clusters (like 1-3 inches across) of jems and/or beads that are already put together, that I can just either arrange and sew down, or add more embellishments to (not necessarily just seed-beaded/sequined appliques).

Here's an example of what I mean - the coins on for size reference on either side are quarters, and it doesn't have to be this particular shape, size, etc., but here's an idea.

If you've ever fancied a pearl/white costume, there's always people on ebay and etsy who find un-loved wedding dresses and harvest them for lace/sequin/pearl appliques to sell for cheapish.

Get a nice gold/white silver/white base fabric...a bunch of harvested appliques, and some added hand embelishment and you're set!

Ebay is often a good source for old recycled appliques. Also Naj at the bellydance shoppe carries some nice appliques. Here's a link: Sequin appliques

I would also look at places like flea markets and thrift stores.
