Taking it up a notch?
So now that I am done with my peacock dress and don't really have any other costume projects on the horizon (or at least none that I can afford to start on
) I think I want to add to the peacock.
I am always scared of overkill (hard with BD I know). All I really want to do is add more feathers to the back of the dress to give it more "volume" I guess you could say.
Is it overkill? Should I just leave it the hell alone and be happy? Or bling away? If not more feathers, then what would you add? Please keep in mind that although I am not a huge fan of the totally minimal costumes out there, I am also not a fan of the wall of fringe either! More of a happy medium gal. Watta think?Last edited by Linnyg; 07-21-2010 at 06:26 PM.

I would create a "belt" around the hips area. Do this in a combo of feathers, rhinestones and fringe. Not too much fringe, but enough to give the dress some movement!

Re: Taking it up a notch?
Good ideas. Definitly going to put more feathers on the back.
I normally wear a hip scarf with it (not the one in the pic, a coined one) but it would be nice to have something to make it less folk when I want more of a cab look. Perhaps I will actually make a little narrow belt to go with it!

Re: Taking it up a notch?
I had actually thought of the over the shoulder thing cause I wanted the feathers to continue all the way up the back of the dress to my shoulders as well. When I really thought about it tho, I decided no on the whole as my hair LOVES to hold on to stuff and since it is baby fine, it tangles like a mother so I stopped it where my hair couldn't play with it.

I think some beaded detail around the neckline, sleeves and hem would be nice. Also maybe add some gold scrolls around the feather area. I think making a seperate belt that's a little blingy would be good too.

Re: Taking it up a notch?
With your awesome beading skills, Linny, you could bead a belt right on the dress to give it a really finished look. Like this:

This dress is a different look, but the idea could be adapted. Peacock feathers could float lightly around your hips, so you wouldn't need a hip scarf.

Re: Taking it up a notch?
The only reason I don't really want to bead it right on the dress is that some times I want more of a folk look from it and I am loosing weight at the moment so beading it around the waist would make it hard to take in when I need to.
BTW, beautiful dress!

A separate belt would work well.
