False Eyelash question
Hello ladies...
I know there are already quite a few threads out there regarding false eyelashes, but I didn't see this particular issue addressed in any of them (granted, I was only skimming through...)
I have a very low-key, laid back performance this weekend, and I figured it would be the perfect time/place to try out wearing false lashes. I have not bought them yet, so no, I haven't done any playing around with them (that'll be tonight or tomorrow...). My concern is that I have what I affectionately call "Camel Lashes". My natural lashes, while not overly thick, are very long, dark and 100% perfectly straight! I'm worried that one I put on the falsies, it'll look odd that the curves don't match. I am not at all adept in using a lash curler, but I'm assuming that is what I'll have to do.
My question is, do I curl my natural lashes, then apply the falsies and hope the curve matches, or do I curl them AFTER putting on the falsies?

Re: False Eyelash question
regardless of what happens make sure you practice putting the suckers on before your show..it takes a bit of time to get the placement down
i would suggest curling your lashes first. you can also angle how the falsies will go on ..you can place them so they are more level with your own but again it takes practice
and if you use dark liner and dark shadow, you can fill in any "gaps" and create the illusion of fullness
i swipe a line of glitter over the top of the lashes base it makes a nice effect and no one is focusing on any gap
have fun!!

Curl before and then go here:

The DVD also advises how to use a lash curler...

Re: False Eyelash question
I have the same issue and my lashes REALLY dont like to curl.
I've done both before and after (and neither) and honestly as long as you get the falsies close in to the natural lashes it really doesn't seem to make much of a difference.

Re: False Eyelash question
I feel you. My lashes used to curl naturally, but after a hormonal shock, they've gone straight and "camel lash" over the last 6 months (weirdest damned thing....)
I curl my lashes first, then apply the false ones. As sterling spider said, if the curve is not perfectly matched, so long as the falsies are close to the natural, it won't really matter. Afterall, in my experience, if you lashes curl naturally they don't ALL curl at exactly the same angle/degree. ;)
A couple of tips I have found helpful:
* Don't get the really dense "doll lashes" (unless you're doing a specific piece for which that's appropriate)--get the ones that ave a little bit of space between small clusters of lashes. These seem to blend better if the the line/angle aren't exact.
* Try trimming off a bit of the false lash from the inner corner (before you apply them). I usually trim off 4-5 of those little segments. With a slightly smaller/narrower band, it's easier to blend them in while still getting that extra length (esp. near the outter corner where you need it). Bonus: The lash edge doesn't poke the inner corner of your eye and/or make your eyes look closer together.
Good luck! I've been applying these suckers for a decade, and it's still 50-50 and pick'em whether I'll get them on in a reasonable manner or whether I'll finally give up and go out on stage with one gorgeous eye and one lazy eye sportin' a caterpillar.... But I missed a couple of important days of girl school. Normal girls' results may vary....

Re: False Eyelash question
I prefer to use halfsie lashes when I'm rushed or am expecting to be sweaty or running around all night without a chance to fix botches. They're much easier to get set in the right place and give you almost all the glam of full lashes.
I got to the point in HS (yay for being a drama geek!) that I could do false lashes in no time flat that stayed on like concrete all night, but I lost that skill somewhere along the way and have only lately started to play with them again.
Oh also... while it's not quite as secure as gluing to bare skin, applying over a heavy line of liquid liner will hide a multitude of mistakes.Last edited by sterlingspider; 02-04-2010 at 05:47 PM.

Re: False Eyelash question
Absolutely! Sometimes I do a thin layer of liquid eyeliner, and then add a bit of pencil liner on top, to soften it. This really helps with hiding that space between your real lashes and the false ones.
I have also taken full lashes and cut them into three sections, which helps with making them fit a little bit closer to your natural curve.
Good luck!
