Thread: Advice please! Should I order...?

Hi! So I'm a newbie to BHUZ, and tried to look for a thread concerning my costume question, but honestly wasn't sure where/how to look. I figured the costuming thread would be the best place to start. I'd love your guys' advice/suggestions on a question I have. Here goes:

I am in absolutely in LOVE with an Eman design that is currently being carried by Dahlal (Gala) & Bellydance Store (Eman Zaki 7994), and would like to order it. However, due to the price, and the fact that I'm trying to save for studying abroad next school year, I figure now is really not the best time. However, I'm worried that when I come back from studying abroad (I'm planning on a year - so, summer 2011), and try to order it then - I'm not sure if the design will still be carried.

Has anyone run into this problem before (i.e. can't purchase the design you want for a year or two)? What should I do? If I wait, what is the likelihood that the design will still be available? If it is not currently available, is it possible to custom order a design that has been previously carried?

I realize in the end "it's my decision", but having never ordered a costume before (broke college student lol ..cr.:), and don't know how long some designs stick around for, I wanted to ask someone much more experienced than myself in these things (i.e. You guys! ..g.:). Should I just go ahead and bite the bullet and get it now 'guaranteed' (i.e. they're still carrying the design), or take a gamble and wait until I get back from India to try?

I've been absolutely addicted to the SM the last few days ..l;,, and have found a couple costumes closer to my budget that I like enough to 'tide me over' until I get back and can purchase the Eman design, but again, I am just not sure.

Any thoughts...? ( Or anyone happen to have/know of one they might be willing to sell for cheaper than the Dahlal/BDS? *fingers crossed* r:; I'd even be interested in a similar design if it could be in that sapphire/midnight blue.) ..l;,..l;,

If it's an Eman, it should be orderable in a year. To my knowledge, she doesn't 'discontinue' any of her past designs (and she'll do custom work as well). Just keep the name and a pic of the costume so that you have it available when you're ready to order it in a year.

Like Dinah said, just save a clear picture of the costume, then you can always ask Eman to make you that one.

The only issue is fabric and trims- I didn't look at the costume you like, but I just tried to custom order a sahar and she can't make it in the fabric I wanted anymore as she ran out of it :(

There will always be great costumes out there. It could be in a year you find something you like even better. I would wait.

I can't promise you it'll be available 100% for sure (though most likely you can get something the same/similar when you're ready).

But there will always be another gorgeous costume..

very true, I remembered stuff I was in love with 5 years ago and now it just wouldn't cut it. Just when you find something perfect, 3 months later, your opinion of perfect is revised!

Keep as many good photos of it as you can, front, back sides, etc. so you can keep a clear idea of it in your head. Memories get fuzzy, pictures never change. I'm told this happens a lot in any area where people order something, then must wait months or even a year for the item. When you have the cash and you're ready to go, you might discover the dream costume in your head no longer matches the costume in the photos.

Most designers accept custom orders, so I'm sure you'll be able to special order it when you're finances are ready. I totally understand the broke college student deal. I have a heavy, real copper coin bra and belt set that I purchased right out of college. I could only afford the belt, I had to wait a year to order the bra cover :) I still have them, wear them, and love them.

And you guys are SO right - there is always another beautiful costume. *sigh* I've already gone over my dance budget this month. LOL >.< I am chalking that up to Newbie addictedness [sp?], but definitely buckling down now. lol

I always snag pictures of costumes that I like but can't currently afford. I figure that one day I'll be able to buy them (I'm a college student too) so I want to remember exactly what they look like!

I haven't ordered a costume custom-made yet, and have found so many unique treasures on bhuz for a good price.

You said it Ezma! I have been so surprised by the deals (and downright steals) asked by BHUZ members for some of their items. I just keep telling myself, "with a degree and a real job, I could afford some of these beauties!" LOL So for now I will just have to settle for pictures and budgeting. ^_^

I have degrees and a real job but would never be able to afford a custom made costume. My advice...don't have kids for awhile. They quickly eat up your BD budget!
