How do you tuck your veil/silk fabric into your costume?

Unfortunately I wasn't blessed with curvy "Soheir Zaki" hips, so when I perform (especially with a straight or mermaid skirt), I like to enhance with veils or silk scraps. I dont know if I'm tucking them correctly and I'm always curious to know how other dancers achieve that flowy-drappey look.

    Any suggestions?

Good to see you on Bhuz, lady! ..g.:

I have the same problem, yet I find that veil/scarf tucking makes me look too short and squatty for my own good. So to heck with it, I say. I just emphasize my serpentine physique

That being said, maybe I'm not doing it right, either! Would like to see some photos, too.

You can also buy those "tranny pads" (padded underwear) from Frederick's of Hollywood to round out your hips and booty. I haven't tried them yet, but have heard some good things.

I've worn a large circle skirt over harem pants (for a karsilama), and tucked the sides of the skirt up into the waist. Basically, I pinched about halfway down the length of the skirt on each side and tucked that pinch in. I know it's not a look you can use all the time, but it might be a nice one to try when the occasion is right.

use the bias of the fabric to get the drapey look. if you want a "poof" you can gather/pleat it before tucking it in
    is that what you meant?
belts that go straight across are helpful too, don't do something that is v shaped or has a really fancy edge to it.

Woah! I cant believe some one thought of this! i'll have to look into it. Thank you ladies for your input. I'm going to try layering a circle skirt although I'm not sure if the style will be really me.

I love the look of the fabric draped into the sides of the belt and I actually first saw it on Suheir Zaki! I think its so gorgeous on anyone, big or small hips but it surely accentuates..

There is also another one of her dancing at a wedding where she also has the sides tucked, I love it!

I can't find a video of it, but on Neena and Veena's "slim down" DVD from 2001 there is a performance from a dancer named Marina. She dances a 6/8 Persian dance and she wears a gold skirt with a black bedlah. She has scarves or something tucked in to her belt. I wish I could find a video. Maybe when I get my new computer set up I can figure out screen shots to take a picture.

..l;,I have several Veena and Neena dvds and they all have Marina. It looks like she does the tucking a lot lol. , I actually had to google how to screenshot dvd's , it doesn't work the normal way on my Mac, anyway she does tuck smaller pieces of fabric into the sides. it looks absolutely gorgeous too! Click to enlarge! ( they're still small because I didnt change the format to jpg, sorry lol)

I had never really payed attention to Marina's 6/8 performance before and I really liked it and I loved the way she tucked at the hips. Being not very hippy myself, I tuck alot so it's inspiring to see this look anywhere I can.
