Question Making bra and belts with crushed panné?

Has anyone done this before and how did it turn out? The costume muse visited me last night and I have a great Idea for some panne that I've had for a long time. It's a beigeish brown color and I am going to bead it with pink. ..g.:

Also, on that same note, where can I find the flat sequins that the designers in Turkey use?

    Thanks!

The first costume I ever made (which I'm probably going to do a revamp on) was panne velvet. It was great to work with since it had a little stretch to it, which made a first-time bra cover job a lot easier.

I actually used flat sequins on that project, pulled off one at a time from the strung sequins you buy by the yard (from Joann's I think). I've since bought huge bags of them in the garment district.

Cartwright's has flat sequins in every color you could imagine.

I have made several costumes out of panne velvet and it has always worked really well. I usually use cupped sequins, but like Najla, I have on occasion taken flat sequins off a string.

    This.

I've made about 4 bra/belt sets for my daughter. It has been very easy to work with. I have some red sitting in a bag calling my name . . .

If its the kind with no lycra that only stretches in one direction, I dislike working with that fabric because the cut edges roll so badly.

Dislike might be too kind of a word. The stuff makes me want to pull my hair out.

Hey Andalee, just make sure the nap is going the same direction on all your pieces. I suggest that it point downward so veils are less likely to catch on it. It wouldn't do to have the nap facing opposite directions on your bra cups, either! How is your gold project going?

Remember panne and crushed are 2 different fabrics. Panne is actually the lower cost fabric. Real crushed velvet comes in stretch but is expensive and well worth it. Once you feel the difference you won't go for panne anymore. You should acquire some swatches to see. Real crushed stretch is soooooooo dreamy!
