"Pro" type costuming question
I'd like to make a pro type costume, meaning bra, skirt, gauntlets and anklets. Which (skirt) pattern would you suggest? What is a good bottom hem width? Of course, I plan to bead it and already have lyra just waiting to be cut. Just can't decide on a good skirt pattern. Also, anyone have pics to share?

Re: "Pro" type costuming question
What style do you dance and what shape is your body?
You could do a trumpet skirt, a straight skirt, a circle... For me personally, I plan on investing in LRose Design stuff for basics like skirts. I've seen people decorate them, and they're very economic for the fabric and quality. The only thing I'd caution again them is I've read that they don't let the circle skirts hang for a while. The fabric tends to change in length and needs to be rehemmed if you don't let them fall properly.Last edited by indigostars; 02-09-2010 at 03:50 PM.

Re: "Pro" type costuming question
I'd go with a mermaid/trumpet style skirt. I think they're flattering on every body type... tight on top for accentuating hip curves and flared at the bottom for spins!
A mermaid skirt is pretty easy to make without a pattern. You could make it in panels... I usually do 6. Measure around the widest part of your hips. Take that number and divide by 6 for 6 panels. Then add a half in to an inch to that number (for seam allowance) and that will be the width of your panels. Sew together (not all the way down), sew in a casing for elastic, add half circle or triangle panels to the bottom (between the 6 panels where you stopped sewing), cut it, hem it, and done!

Re: "Pro" type costuming question
If I am thinking correctly, the Simp 4401 is like the mermaid skirt. I'm thinking perhaps an a-line type??? There is a red costume with red/yellow veil rising star set in Dahlal's current issue, I really like the cut of that skirt....also the blue one next to it. Couldn't get it to cut/paste here, probably illegal anyway.
