clingy/painful costume??
my black stars costume has all these little star sequins with really sharp points alllll over it. veil or wings are out of the question cuz it would constantly get stuck and tangled.
any suggestions? i dont want to go in and replace all the darned things (that would take foreverrrr) and i dont want to remove the stars either...

Re: clingy/painful costume??
Sorry, but I'm afraid I think you're just stuck with a costume that sounded better on the drawing board than it works in real life. If you want to keep the star sequins on, I can't think of anything you can do to remedy the problem of sharp corners than to go around with a tiny applicator of fabric glue and tack the points down or cover/outline around them (and that's a process likely to be time-consuming, messy, and probably unsatisfying in the end result). You'd go nuts trying to blanket stitch around them like shisha embroidery, especially if they're very tiny stars--that would be worse than petit point.
One of the reasons round sequins are so much more common than cornered ones is that they're just less trouble. They don't snag as much, and it's harder to bend them because they don't have points to get caught and pulled out of shape. If you don't want to pick them off and replace them with hot-fix rhinestones or something, you're probably just not going to be able to do much fabric-prop work in that costume.

I wonder if you can coat the sides with clear nail polish so they're smoother? I've done this with grabby rhinestone prongs before and while it's time consuming, it works great.

err thats what i was afraid of. gosh y do costumes like this even exist? lol whoever made this obviously wasn't a dancer..i can't even risk doing a cute little drop in a drum solo because i'm scared the bottom of the skirt will snag onto itself lol

Every now and then you see a costume that has some decoration or cutout that looks very pretty and interesting, but would be completely impractical for dancing. I'm sort of surprised they didn't catch the star thing while the costume was being made, but maybe the seamstress did and was told to keep her criticism to herself.

I've had a couple of costumes like this, but with rhinestone chain. Rhinestone chain is the DEVIL, I tells ya! Nothing is more embarrassing than doing a beautiful drapey move with your veil, only for it to get stuck to your costume

Still gonna have to try the clear nail polish...
