SO SAD! Soooooo Sad! No help for me!
I thought I found someone to help me sew. I gave her fabric to do simple circle skirts and trumpet skirts. I gave her samples and instructions and her portfolio of work seemed really great. But now she cut all the fabric wrong and delivered me a pile of cut up fabric not sewn and skirts with wrong lengths and waistbands and not even the scraps so I can't salvage anything! I am so sad so bummed so mad. I have to go down and buy all new fabric and work my butt off all night just to catch up! ..cr.:

wow, I'm really sorry this happened to you.
I just got your email, and I'll make do with a different costume for my performance in France. I have a feeling my peach won't get here in time.

No your peach is safe. She didn't touch the peach. Just all my chiffon and a bunch of awesome bronze lycra.

Re: SO SAD! Soooooo Sad! No help for me!
no she didn't
I asked for a circle skirt, gave her a sample and it came back as a giant square with elastic along one end!
All that tissue silk chiffon ruined!!
I am going to try to turn the messed up pieces into a petal skirt.

And of course there isn't enough fabric in one of the squares to make a single panel! *shakes head* How hard is it to make a circle skirt? I have a pattern for both a two and three panel drafted and in their appropriate envelops. This is NOT rocket science!

I know! She sent me a whole design portfolio before I hired her. Someone who can make complex wrap dresses and such can surely understand the concept of a circle!!!! Especially with a finished sample given as a guide. Not to mention you can google how to make a circle skirt. grrrrrrrrrr

I would ask for some sort of reimbursement, since she ruined your fabric. You had to pay for the fabric, she needs to pay for ruining it.

Can you sell the scraps for people who want enough to cover a bra and belt? Swap seems to be the place for project lovers.

Re: SO SAD! Soooooo Sad! No help for me!
the chiffon I don't care about. that stuff is $1 a yard. It's the silk and the lycra that I am mad about. The painted tissue silk will have to be worked into some sort of layered petal skirt now and the lycra can cover some bra/belt someday but it just sucks.
I am stuffing my face with comfort food and just trying to forget it for now =(
Thanks for all the good wishes!

Are you certain the portfolio was her work? Did she have actual human contact references to attest to her qualifications to operate a pair of scissors? Sometimes people have no scruples when it comes to "padding" their resumes/body of work.

I am so sorry!!!
Can you use the chiffon, or silk for doll clothes? Or, children costumes?
I wish I lived near you, I'd help you out.
I was wondering the same thing as JoLynn!
It's definetly not rocket science!
I wonder if she needed a pattern, with instructions to go by?

Is there a fashion design college near you? They would be a good resource for help, I know seniors need to do an apprenticeship at some point..........just a thought.

This person should be arrested for CRIMES AGAINST FABRIC!!!
I say we send the 3AM rotary cutter brigade to her house. Hey, you think the zill brigade is scary... you don't want to see what the rotary cutter brigade will do to your curtains!!

So sorry to hear this. Anyway you could get reimbursed or something?
Anyway to salvage the fabric? make other items, sell to others for extra fabric, make petite/short skirts :)

Re: SO SAD! Soooooo Sad! No help for me!
Oh No!!
I wish I was closer, I would be happy to help, my mom taught me how to sew my first straight seams when I was 7..........and I remember the first time I cut into a lovely fabric without double checking everything.............and wrecked it.....heartbroken, I think I actually called my mom and cried.....
All that beautiful fabric ruined?!!! That's maddening, and it's absurd that she didn't offer to reimburse you. Hrrmmff.
Hmm. I'm thinking, however, that something incredible is going to rise out of the remaining pile of fabric though........................like a Phoenix from the ashes!
An amazing design will be the best retribution ever..g.:
