Please post an example (pic) of bra made more modest
I've got a costume I'm selling a dancer who is very well-endowed. It doesn't really fit her top, but I need the money and I'm not going to refuse to sell just because I don't think it looks good on her. However, I'd like to show her a few options for modifying the top, especially using ruched fabric. Anyone have some nice examples they'd care to show?

OK, these are not the most flattering pictures of me ;-)
In the red costume, I added a little piece of satin tape between the cups, decorated it w/ a rhinestone, for just a wee bit more coverage. In the blue costume, I sewed the head band to the top of the cups, and added two big fat rhinestines to tie it all together. I added a 1/'2 size to the red, and a good cup size to the blue.

Dee, Sa'diyya has done this with her costumes. Here's an example:

I don't have pictures, but it depends on the costume. With Pharaonics I've taken the headband and had it sewed on the cups....that adds a lot of extra coverage as their headbands are large!
I've also had a bra that had chiffon added to the top of the bra to add some coverage. Both worked well!

This one. It has a modesty panel with swags of beads over it.

Re: Please post an example (pic) of bra made more modest
I had to do some major costume alterations last fall. Here is the thread.
Here is the photo of the final top.

I know the top looks kind of plain with the green fabric, but it's the exact same color as my skirt.

Thanks all. Yes, Sa'diyya's is most like what I'm looking for, only her "modesty panel" almost looks like it's tucked, rather than tailored. But it's the general gist.

I don't have any photos but I have used this method from somebody on tribe.

I added a ruched piece of fabric on top of a stiff piece of fabric at the edge of the cups. They were a little bit small and gapping so this made it fit much better and I think it looks more elegant too.
I needed a wider band at the back too, for better comfort, so I let the ruching continue all the way around.

Gisela, that is gorgeous. I think you definitely improved the look as well as the fit of the set! Nice work.

Thank you Dunyah! That makes me happy to hear :)!
It was actually a fairly simple operation technique-wise, but it took some time to sew.

Gisela, I really like that modification! How tall was the fabric before you ruched it?

Re: Please post an example (pic) of bra made more modest
I am not sure, it was quite an intuitive process. I would guess about 7 inches wide though. The fabric is quite thin and slinky and doesn't "fill" much. I just had a big piece of it, laid it out flat and ruched it at the edge to see how much I would need to make the width I wanted.

Does it have a head band with the costume? I use those all the time to add to the bra!

Re: Please post an example (pic) of bra made more modest
It's rare that a costume of mine *doesn't* end up with the headband or similar piece of fabric sewn on top of the cups. Here's a Hanan dress with headband boobouflage.

Something to keep in mind: I don't back the added trim with stiffer fabric unless that's the only way it will keep it shape. Using stiff backing often gives you the look of a larger structured cup, which is not flattering on my short torso. It can be fine on other people with different proportions, though, and it works beautifully when the overall effect is still soft as in Gisela's example above. You just want to avoid making the actual breasts look bigger than they are on the dancer's frame, and the softer look helps with that.Last edited by Suzana; 02-22-2010 at 09:01 AM.
