Drugstore long-wearing lipstick, in a red that doesn't look garish?
I don't like many reds on me, as I usually just feel like the Joker in them. I do like red glosses because the sheerness makes them less scary, but I can't use a gloss on stage for this one particular number I'm doing this weekend as it has a lot of hair swishing and all right in my face. So can someone recommend a red that isn't quite as in-your-face, that is also a long-wearing formula which probably means it's on the drier side so greasy glossiness + my hair won't be a problem, and can be gotten at the drugstore? I need a less bright red (if that makes sense) to wear with a red costume this weekend.
I know, I know: a tall order to fill. But it didn't hurt to ask! ..g.:

Smashbox cosmetics isn't drugstore but they ship fast and they have a great lip pencil (double sided) that is more of a stain, very matte and can be toned down by blotting cloths but really lasts and most importantly doesn't cause the artificial "hair mustache" look. I don't know if there is an alternative at the drugstores but probably something like it. Aunna

Easy Answer (from my p.o.v.!:)) -- Get thee to WALGREENS and get L'Oreal H.I.P. line of Lipstick in "Sangria" or "Bold" - Excellent shades of long-wearing deep, true, more-blue-based Reds

I have 2 product recs! First, Revlon Colorstay liquid lip color:
Revlon - NEW! ColorStay Ultimateâ„¢ Liquid Lipstick
They've got all the colors listed on their site. As with all long-wearing colors, these will dry your lips out big time but it definitely lasts. If you need some moisture you can put a bit of balm overtop; it won't stick to your hair. The formula for this product is really thin, which I like.
Second: L'Oreal Infallible Lip Colour Duo:
Infallible Lip lipstick by L'Oréal Paris: moisturising long-lasting effect for a perfect pout.
2-steps; make sure to let the color dry before applying the gloss of course. This also stays really well. The "gloss" is more of a balm and your hair won't stick to it. I have a red in this collection called "Crimson" that isn't too garish (for a red) but it's not listed on the site. It might be a discontinued shade...
Finding the right shade of red can be tricky, though. I like to bring my lipsticks that have/haven't worked out for me so I can compare them to what's at the store. It's easier for me to tell if something is too orange/brown/whatever for my coloring if I have something to base it off of--especially since lighting can be weird in drugstores

Thanks, girls! I can probably manage to get to some gloss right after the preformance and swipe it on before we go mingle with the audience. That way I'll just have to suffer with the dry lipstick during the dancing.

I'm seconding the Revlon Colorstay products!
You can apply lip balm to your lips before applying the lipstick and it will not feel so dry.

Walgreen's carries a lipliner by Rimmel called "Red Diva" -- it's a nice red, not garish, stays on very well. You can use it as a liner, then fill in. Sometimes they go on sale, too ....

I went on a red lipstick bender last night! But most of them were on sale or at clearance prices.
L'Oreal Infallible 'Crimson' ($5)
L'Oreal Infallible 'Garnet' ($5)
L'Oreal Colour Riche 'Red Rhapsody' ($2.25)
Rimmel 'Temptation' ($2.64)
Rimmel lip liner 'Ravish' ($6.49)
And non-red lipsticks:
L'Oreal Colour Riche 'Mystic Mauve'
L'Oreal Colour Belladonna Mauve'

I wonder if Maybelline's "Drippin'/Dripping Honey" has been discontinued in the US. Emma's got me all hot to try it, but I can't find it anywhere. Sugared Honey is around, but I think that's lighter and a different finish. Quick, somebody, send me some gray-market European Maybelline contraband!

L'Oreal's Garnet is good. Revlon has one called Revlon Red (or something like that) and it doesn't dry your lips out either.

Looked on Ebay for this and found one "Drippin´Honey" for 16$

When I find something I love that´s affordable it´s discontinued after maximum 3 months...
Therefore;stock up on my other favorite red as long as it´s dirt cheap:
Milani lipstick - 31 berry rich - eBay (item 110499445416 end time Mar-03-10 15:57:40 PST)
