Re: Give your honest opinion about this costume
Hard to see, can you put it on or on a lighter background?

Re: Give your honest opinion about this costume
Hmm, as a Midwesterner, I can say I'm not overly crazy about the yellow decorations -- they sort of look like hands, and I'm not crazy about decorations that look like hands on the boobs. But perhaps I'm more conservative. The construction looks good!

Here is another pic on a more clear background.

Re: Give your honest opinion about this costume
From a distance, the design is rather unbalanced. The bright yellow draws the eye to the bottom of the right cup and the top of the left. I'm not sure where you're going with the lighter blue trim. It's possible that if you are planning on running it horizontally across both cups, this will cut down on the up-down effect of the yellow designs, because it would focus the eye on that. It's awfully hard to see the detail on the trim, but I'm afraid the lighter blue trim looks rather upholstery-ish in the pictures--it may look different in person. I really can't see what's going on trim-wise on the left cup. It looks like a different kind and color of braid.
My instinct is to say that the blue design sequins on the bottom of the left cup need to be a brighter color to compete with the yellow--not necessarily the same design element, but something to balance out the contrast, and I'd copy whatever was going on there on the top of the right cup. Maybe just sprinkling a liberal number of yellow sequins in the "dark" spaces would pull things into a more consistent look.
I'm really not loving the beaded trim. It's spread too far apart to look like what you see on commercial costumes. I think you might be better just clustering a longer group of beads in the center of the cups instead of the sparser, shorter fringe you have now. Alternatively, you could run swags of beads on the cups, perhaps incorporating the points on the yellow elements as your anchor spots.
It looks like you're doing a nice job on the workmanship, though.
As a Midwesterner and University of Michigan fan, I think the color scheme is great! Seriously, I didn't pick up the hand vibe. The points-up one reminds me of a lotus blossom and the points-down one looks sort of like a stylized spider.

Re: Give your honest opinion about this costume
I would get rid of the light blue wavy bit though or, as it looks like it might be the ribbon for the fringe, I would cover it with dark sequins and beads like the rest of the bra. Otherwise, awesome!

Re: Give your honest opinion about this costume
It looks unbalanced to me too. It's okay that it's not symmetrical, but my eye keeps going from the bottom of the right cup (my left) to the top of the other. I like the idea of the orange-blue combination, but the blue makes that orange look even brighter in the wrong places. Something bright needs to go in that black empty space on the top right cup.

Re: Give your honest opinion about this costume
yheah, doesn't have to be symmetrical but it sortta reminds me of when my street bras come out of the wash machine (thank God for hand wash cycles ^_^) and they've twisted around the center connecter. im guessing that because you're asking us to "give our honest opinion" you aren't 100% confident and maybe don't want to admit to yourself that all the work you've done didn't turn out how you wanted it to? i've been there! many times! mr seam ripper should buy me breakfast after all the nights i've spent with him.

Re: Give your honest opinion about this costume
from a distance, the top looks kinda lopsided because of the yellow flowers. to cancel that out, maybe you could use some light blue fabric and sew it on the cups like the the first half of an infinity loop (like they did with the glittery stuff on the bra here: Belly Dance Costumes | Belly Dance Store.com: gallery )
also, i'd remove that light blue trim because it makes the design a bit too "busy".
lastly i'd get rid of the trim running along the bottoms of the cups and cluster it inbetween the cups only...

Re: Give your honest opinion about this costume
Yes, the left cup looks more even from a design standpoint now. I still think you might want to work in a little brightness toward the inner edge of the cups, and possibly the outer edges, going around the band to the back, too. You want the whole cup to look decorated, not just a couple of bright splashes.
02-28-2010 09:33 AM #14Re: Give your honest opinion about this costume
thanks tourbeau, that is exactly what i have in mine work on that edges of the cups, and the blue strap, tomorrow i will post againg with a new pic on how is taking form, just one question, i want to work that part , but im not sure if delineated all that in gold or silver, what do you girls think?

Re: Give your honest opinion about this costume
It looks like you've got some lighter lavender sequins in the design that silver would bring out, and the yellow and pink would look nice with gold, so you could probably go either way. I think the beads might work a little better with silver, though. Of course, you could just choose one of the bright colors you're already using, too. What color skirt are you planning to wear with it?

Re: Give your honest opinion about this costume
It is starting to look better! Are you going to have 2 lotuses on each cup? I think that will solve your balance problem. I like the two-tone flowers; it will keep the asymmetrical look yet manage to balance out the design.
Do you have some orange or fuchsia beads that match those sequins? You could remove that chunky fringe off the bottom and put a few strands of the brightly colored beads from the center bottom.
02-28-2010 02:12 PM #17Re: Give your honest opinion about this costume
hi girls, well i am thinking in used it with a fishtale skirt probably dark blue , or some dark color, did you recomend me to decorate the skirt with thease colors , or just go plain with some decorate gold or silver according the one i will use it.
i will remove the bottom fringe, but let me see if i understand ( sorry if i ask alot , its for my english sometimes i forget alot words :) )
you recomend to used some fringe just in the center , and the color could be fucsia or orange, or just go for the same blue that has not the clear one i mean the other the one that is in the two lotus flower cup, or mixes the colors, jejej please answer soon tomorrow i will go to the mall to buy all the sequin , beads , and cristal that i miss,
other thing on the cup that is just one flower , do you think that some cristal will work? i mean on the part that its in blank, what do you think if i fill that part with cristals?

Re: Give your honest opinion about this costume
If you have a plain dark blue skirt, you have the option of wearing it with other costumes. Otherwise, I think if you want to decorate the skirt, it would make more sense to match it to the same colors as the bra. If you work gold or silver into the bra design, then that would tie things together. Otherwise, you would probably want to use the same yellow, pink, and lavender on the skirt. Are you planning to have a separate belt or to put the design directly on the skirt fabric?
The styles designers are making now don't have a lot of fringe across the cups. They tend to put "tassels" of fringe on. The easiest way would be to put a tassel in the center of the cups. If you look at the bra on this costume, it has a concentration of beads in the center, but also some dangling on the cups. You might use the points of your flowers to do that, or you could skip the extra cup decorations and just go with the beads in the center.i will remove the bottom fringe, but let me see if i understand. you recomend to used some fringe just in the center , and the color could be fucsia or orange, or just go for the same blue that has not the clear one i mean the other the one that is in the two lotus flower cup, or mixes the colors, jejej please answer soon tomorrow i will go to the mall to buy all the sequin , beads , and cristal that i miss,

It's up to you if you want to keep the same beads, or buy all new ones. One option might be to buy some tiny gold or pink beads and string them in between the light blue beads you already have. You'd have to cut your existing trim apart and restring everything, but that would keep your costs lower than buying all new beads.
Personally, I'd like to see some of the brighter colors up there. You've got a lot of design on the left cup, so you need about the same amount of design on the right side to balance it.other thing on the cup that is just one flower , do you think that some cristal will work? i mean on the part that its in blank, what do you think if i fill that part with cristals?

Re: Give your honest opinion about this costume
I think it might help to add a little more silver to the right cup because it looks darker than the left from a distance, but otherwise, I'd say you're just about done with the bra!

Re: Give your honest opinion about this costume
These last picture show better detail than some of the earlier ones, and I'm thinking the fringe seems heavier on the right cup than the left, but I don't know if it would be possible to thin it out to match now. In looking back at the earlier pictures, I can see that it's always been that way, but it was harder to tell when the bra is lying down. It might look different on, though
Will you work some of the yellow, pink, and silver into the belt design next?
03-04-2010 07:34 PM #29Re: Give your honest opinion about this costume
yes, i will work those colors on the belt , now is just the base, and yes the fringe its more in one size than the other , i dont know i think is a kind of crazy desing , like both cups are diferent, one have the fringe combinate and other around the cup.
if you look the fringe are combinate , are two type of fringe like on the beltLast edited by isisangelrd; 03-04-2010 at 07:37 PM.
