Safety pin horrors
Last night I stuck myself! My arm sleeves are too big, so I just used a safety pin to make them tighter so they wouldn't fall down. I was changing costumes in between sets and after I put them on, I reached for my make up to touch it up. I felt something was wrong with my sleeve, so I looked for the pin thinking it maybe poked me. It sure did! I tried moving the sleeve and couldn't because the pin was stuck in my arm, and wouldn't budge! ..l;, It was mildy distressing but luckily I had another dancer in the room to help unstick me since I couldn't get the right angle to unpin myself! Naughty me kept the pin in--luckily it didn't come undone again! It only bled a little and there's just a small mark on my arm from the wound/gouge (I'm being dramatic when I say gouge).
I've heard of a dancer hitting an artery or something and having a pool of blood on her skirt.....who else has safety pin horror stories?

I've scratched the heck out of myself with stray straight pins left in costume projects....luckily no safety pin issues I can recall

Re: Safety pin horrors
I once helped a dancer backstage who wanted to pin her bra closed. I knew it was a bad idea but she seemed determined. Her bra popped open during her performance. I felt terrible. I did the best I could but obviously it wasn't enough. She handled it really well, though, but I don't if she trusts me still, to this day.
Moral: safety pins and bras are an unsafe combination!
Re: diaper pins - I don't know where to find these anymore. Suggestions?

Re: Safety pin horrors
Who was it, on bhuz, who had a terrible safety pin mishap years ago? She had pinned her belt and skirt, and the pin had come undone, poking her in the thighs and hoo-ha area? Was it Kimahri? I just remember that was a HIGHLARIOUS thread.

Re: Safety pin horrors
You can still buy diaper in the baby department of stores, and also from eBay. I ordered some at one time, and I'm sure that people are still selling them.

I have bought diaper pins in Hancock's, Joanne's, etc. Also Walmart and Kmart in the craft department. Ebay is another option. I keep diaper pins tucked in many places. I currently have 5 on my keychain, always handy.

I *love* these:
Tiny Tush Heavy Duty Curved Baby-Safe Cloth Diaper Pins
They are metal and lock so they won't pop open at all. :)

Re: Safety pin horrors
I have a safety pin success story.. I have a purple velvet cabaret bra. But I needed something more Earthy & "Gypsy". So I took a purple scarf and pinned it over the cups of the cabaret bra to hide the sparkly rhinestones. I used safety pins, so I could try it on without harming myself.
It worked so well that instead of sewing the scarf to the bra (my original plan) I just added a few more safety pins & wore it like that. It looked cool, I got compliments on it, and was easy to remove the scarf.

Re: Safety pin horrors
I pinned my skirt/belt/undies together at the the front to keep everything in line and the pin came open during my set. I danced half a set with a pin stuck into my lower abs...OW!
Not as bad as when I stepped on a stray hookah coal barefoot though.
