This is soooo much more sparkily than I'm able to photograph.
That was originally my project and I lost interest and sold it to BernieV. I love what you're doing with it.

I'm fairly certain this project appeared in both last month and January's project threads and I'm still working on it. The belt and skirt are done. The bra is mostly done and still needs to be lined and hooks added. I also still need to make some accessories for this. I've been calling this costume "Pirate's Plunder".

Horus and isis is a good place since they do take custom orders. There are also some fringe sellers on ebay but I don't know anybody who has bought from them. I think that the talented seamstresses in here would have more info on that than me anyway

You can't see details very well in this pic, but Bubbles finally went out for some dancing this weekend!!!! The bra and belt were first covered with a stretch glitter fabric, then ruched with the same duco-chiffon as the skirt. Two sizes of AB crystal swarovskis are scattered on top, each beaded around with sequins and hex cut beads. I did the icicle treatment on the fringe, which I purchased from Scheherezade Imports. Oh, and you totally can't see them here, but I added little fringe loops with a swarovski ball dangling every couple inches on the belt and at the center of the bra (very Pharaonics inspired). I might do a little more "finishing" on this, but here she is for now -

Kiyaana, that's beautiful. That color looks so nice on you. How did you do the icicle effect on the fringe? Did you just pull the extra lenght up into the bra/belt or did you cut it and re-bead it?

That color looks smashing on you. Can you post close-ups at some point? I'd love to see the detail. It's gorgeous!

Thanks - I know you are very familiar with this fabric! ..g.: I measured the icicle fringe on a Pharaonics costume and the strands were around 7", 5", and 3". I started with 8" fringe and would snip off the end knot, slide off some beads, then tie a new knot. It took a bit of time, but it was the perfect activity during the January snow storms we had here.

Thanks! Yes, I will post some close-ups, and maybe with the other skirt I had already made (from the stretch glitter fabric). I'm not great at beading, so don't expect much ..l;,. I try to find interesting fabric to make up for it.

Thanks for the tip. I may try that on my next costume adventure. I like the softer line the icicle fringe has rather than the straight accross line regular fringe does.

I'm working on an Airport special fixer upper. This was one of those "What was I thinking?" purchases. The costume is in really bad shape and it was a cheaply made costume to begin with. However, I really get to test my skills to see how I fair. I'll be blogging about this as I go through the process. I will post links as I go along.

    But for now...

Andalee, I think you're doing a great job so far. One thing that I would recommend is that when you add onto the top of the cups, add a little craft wire (22 guage) to the top edge of the cups. It will give it added stability and also make it so you can squish it a little to fit you.

    Good luck, but I don't think you need any, cause so far, so good! ,r:;

You and me both. No really though...I need luck because I am afraid I am going to put all this work into it and then it is going to fall apart again. The thread is disintegrating and they didn't tie it off often enough so there are lots of loose and falling sequins! I'm thinking of dowsing the whole thing with fray check! .w.:

Yeah, I tried it first with the fringe as-is and sewed it up into the belt to create a wave pattern, but it just wasn't doing it for me. I figured I had already spent so much time on the costume, I may as well invest more to get it how I wanted it. I'm happy with straight-across fringe for other looks, though.

Wow, Andalee, I had no idea you were doing so much to the costume...you're doing a great job and it's going to look smashing when it's finished. I sure wish better thread was used in constructing these things too. I have a red Turkish airport special I'm totally rebuilding (except the superfringe) and ended up denuding the entire thing of it's sequins and beads.

Unfortunately you can't see the detail on the bra, dress and belt--turquoise scarabs, turquoise and coral beads, silver beads, aquamarine crystal beads, silver filigree pin with scarab on the headpiece. Still working on it. It morphs all the time. Black mesh long-sleeved body suit and black mesh half skirt underneath.

Souzan, I love the dress. The beading and color combinations sounds stunning.

I'm also working with assuit, I didn't have enought fabric for a dress sadly, so i'm working on a cream assuit bedlah. It's almost covered, just need to make straps and cover the last parts of the bra.

    Elenya,

I lilke the way you did the belt. That is my future plan, to change the assuit hip scarf to a belt. And I see you did as I did and positioned the triangular silver bits along the top of the bra cups. I sewed turquoise and coral beads along the top edge of the cups, but a scarab between the cups and made fringe with silver, turquoise and coral beads.

Keep posting pictures of yours as it progresses.

Re: What are you working on? March 2010

No pictures, but something got into me tonight and I decided to completely refurbish my gold swag Neckelmann's bedla. This was my first "pro" level bedla and has seen a considerable bit of wear and tear.

I cut off every one of the swags of fringe on the bra since the gold finish on the beads blackened when exposed to sweat... and I ripped out the muslin lining I had once added to prevent the stretchy bra band from stretching...

Once a healthy dousing of Febreeze has dried, I'll be replacing the muslin lining with a layer of EZ felt covered topped with a lining of something soft. Then I'll replace the loops of fringe at just the front of the bra since the bead loops on the side make my waist disappear.

I haven't decided yet but I may also reconfigure the straps, which have a tendency to slide down over my shoulders...

    Eek!
