Finished Berry Delight and off to Canada it goes. This one was tinged with jealousy though. It fits me perfectly and is so comfy. I want it!!!!!
I think it's really flattering. I guess I will have to make myself one.
Here I am trying to take a lame picture of me in it in front of my sewing room mirror.

I am also starting a project for myself which is exciting cause I never get to make personal stuff. This fabric is from France and it is all gold/black sequins on a heavy silk tulle. I will have a shiny black bra/belt to go with. Right now it is just the basic dress but it does have bell sleeves. I am trying to think of the best way to cover my butt in this. Maybe nude capri tights?

    This is beautiful on you!

It must be tough to see so many beautiful things leave your sewing room without having any of them live with you!

    Shut the front door!

Or as we would say in Montréal, Québec: Wa-ta-ta-tow!

    Aaaaaaw!!! You gals so sweeet!
I should say that this costume has 2 skirts so there is a hot pink one underneath so Aneesh can layer.
I swear I am in a pile of pink and red this month! Almost every project is pink and red.
I am also doing my last 2 heart costumes. No more hearts for me after this month.
    Whatcha guys working on?

Well, he's got nothing to do with belly dance but this little guy (purse) was clamoring to get out of my head so I had to make him ..g.:

Aside from that, I am working in Illustrator drawing up a paisley motif for a stitch sampler to use in the bead embroidery workshop I'll be teaching at the beginning of next month ..g.: It doesn't make for interesting pictures ..l;,

I bought the vintage style black/peacock bedlah from Ezma
http://www.bhuz.com/forum/bellydance...veil-sold.html and now I need your help ladies.

The bra band fits but I cannot breathe. What's the best/easiest way to make the band longer? add to existing band or remake?

also the neck straps are way too short. currently it's 1 piece sewn. What would be the easiest way to make these longer?

the belt luckily just fits, but if I put on weight/inches it won't, so if anyone has suggestions on how to make the belt a tad longer that would be great. As it is, I can wear it, I'd be more comfortable with an added inch.

Re: What are you working on? March 2010

SaNoorah, I would think how you alter it will depend on at least two things. How much of the 'vintage' appeal you want to preserve and availability of matching materials. I'd be inclined to add to the existing straps if I could blend the new with the old. If blending isn't possible, I'd replace them entirely- including the neck strap.

As for extending the neck strap, I find that seams near my neck and shoulders tend to rub my skin painfully. If you add to center back, be sure to line the strap with something to prevent this. If you'd have to add at one side or both, I might just say to heck with it and create a whole new strap.

I see in the detail photo that the belt appears to have a little overlap at the sewn side? If possible let out a little room there. If you can't... Well, I'm not sure how to handle it without causing gaps in the fringe and having a heck of a time keeping the pattern going. Maybe one of the other ladies will have a fix.

Oh, and thanks everyone for the monster purse love :D Eventually (probably this weekend) I'll add his 'tongue' which is a velcro change purse (or cymbal storage spot!) Hahaha...

I finished a skirt that I love (perfect length for practice) it's a shin length 8 point rainbow pixie skirt(every point is a different color)... but my husband saw it and said "clown skirt?" ,m:: I am feeling less proud of it now.

That is an amazing costume!!! Wow! I think you'll have to redo both the side straps and the bra straps (or at least that is what I would do.) Also, it looks like the connector between the cups is too high. You might need to bring it down lower. You may be surprised by how it changes the fit. Good luck!

Here's an update of the fixer upper. I'm definitely going to need to use some craft wire at the top. I think the cup extensions look good.

I'm continuing to work on my fire goddess outfit. The choli top is done. The skirt is mostly made but need dear daughter to help mark bottom(or top) since it's too long. Both choli and skirt are made of reddish orange crushed velvet (all stretch) with sheer ornage insets for bell sleeves and godets on the skirt. I'm still working on sewing the fabric to the bra and belt base and have (lamost) decided on the beading pattern. I have costume file where I store pictures of some of the great costumes I've seen on Bhuz. My current thought combines some of the best of the best with my own ideas. I hope to get pictures up some time soon.

I was wondering if you could describe how you curved the line of triangles along the top of the belt. That's also what I'd like to do, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to make it work without interfering with the assuit design.

Andalee, well done! The shape of the cup extensions does completely blend in with the reset of the bra.

Trade? ..g.: Lol... Thanks Eshta, they're a lot of fun to engineer. Not that I imagine you have lots of time for sewing things other than your awesome sparkly costumes but maybe you could make a glitter dot monster I drafted a very basic pattern in Adobe Illustrator. No instructions written up and no markings/labels but I could be convinced to share ..l;,

This guy is about 9"x9" with a shoulder strap- eventually he'll have a tongue that opens for change. I could make a smaller one for zills quite easily though. Sure, you can send me fabric and I'll do it- sounds fun! I'll drop you a line at your regular email and we can brainstorm ..l;,
