Anya's strap removal post got me thinking that a lot of you seem to dislike the extra straps around the waist. I know the ones that attach in front and float around the back often cause a squeeze to happen. But these on Anya's costume look lovely to me. Is there some functional reason that these seem to be on the 'least wanted' list? Or is it just a fashion opinion as to whether they look good or not? I'm asking because I had intended to do some 'multiple strap' details on my Green Monster costume and didn't want to do something I'd regret!
I don't know about anyone else, but I have a very short torso and speaking personally, they are 'least wanted because they make my middle seem even shorter than it really is -munchkin-tastic.

I think they look fabulous on longer bodied dancers, but have herad many people say that they find them irritating to wear or a bit too fussy.

I've been lurking this month because I've been repairing 25 yard skirts until I'm blue in the face and then adding fringe to my bedlah. Not really post worthy. I'm almost done with my cab belt though! I'm super excited.

I just wanted to say fantastic job, ladies! ..g.:

thanks girl it took a while to do. I had toextend the bra base about three inches to fit but added some fabric, stones, and pretties and voila! a kitty costume. I am gonna make a rhinestone one beginning April hopefully:)

Holy heck! I go away from the computer for the weekend and this thread just exploded! ..g.: Thanks for all the feedback on the waist straps seen with skirts! I'm constructing straps right now which is a slow process of hand sewing on my lunch break at work. Right now I'm half-way done building the extra straps for the top. Then I have to decide if I'm going to bead them and if so, how much. I'm actually thinking I might use some boning in the waist straps. The featherweight boning would have the curve I need and I'm thinking it might help keep the straps from slipping down. I'll keep you all posted on the experiment.

Most of my crafting these days has been in an attempt to meet my personal goal of 30 items in my etsy shop. So far I've got it up to 19 and I've got quite a few pieces of original art that I can post so I should be there soon ..g.:

I'm so glad to have gotten all of your feedback about the straps as that was kind of holding me up in the Green Monster construction process. Hopefully I'll have some picture worthy updates with in the next week or so

Okay, I'm sneaking this in here before bed time Full of safety pins but at least you get the idea... ..l;,

I've got the ruffles cut out and ready to be sewn for the skirt. Just want to fuss with the pattern to accommodate the weight loss. Well... And I'm procrastinating cutting up my lovely fabric because I'm a nerd like that ..l;,

My restaurant is all but closed but I'm consoling myself with thoughts of gigs that it's rumored I'll be offered down South- 'bout an hour and a half drive one way *sigh* and I keep telling myself I can put a pair of my wings with it and dance my heart out at FaerieWorlds this summer.

So it's my intent to add another 3 strands of beads over the rib cage and the skirt is supposed to have cut outs if I can be brave enough to cut holes in it. Wish me luck!

*GASP* THAT IS AWESOME! Girrrrrrrrrl......you freakin' rock! That looks even better than your sketch pictures! I LOVE the straps in the middle of the bra, love your beadwork. Can't wait to see the belt and skirt! Oh, and mega props to you for doing the dreaded swag/loop fringe. No matter how you slice it, loop fringe is HARD! In any case, keep up the great work!

(Oh, and thanks for your kind words on my most recent creation--as I told my friend Inara, "it's the first costume I've done that a sizable percentage of people wouldn't find tacky!")

Good luck and post your progress!
Thanks for the tips, Elenya! Your post gave me the courage to go ahead with cutting/pinning the fabric for the belt and to try to get the shape I need just by stretching the assuit. I think it just might work! I'll try to take some photos soon.

In other news, I am loving RioDancer's green bra and Shahla's Pirate's Plunder!

Thanks ..g.: Lol, I thought I was being lazy doing the swag fringe- seemed easier than lots of little attachment points ..l;, I use button thread or something called SoftFlex beading wire with crimp beads.

..l;, Eshta I love that you've got my sketch in your inspiration folder! I'm pretty sure I have a number of your images in my folder too (Ooh, I love those colors, or ooh, what a great beading technique, or ooh, what a great shape). This costume was probably designed as much by the members of this thread as it was by me!

It's beautiful...and you'll find the bravery to do the cutouts if, ultimately. that's what the skirt needs.

Kizzie! I still think you should hold a costume making workshop lol! Once I'm out of school in a couple months and have time I definitely want to make one!......wouldn't have a clue where to start!

Kerri-Once you are finished with school, I can show you what I have learned so far about making costumes. (I will bring this one with the loops on Thursday to class with me so you can see it before my class start and after your class ends). I have the belt finished except for the hooks.
