My hair is not "super" long but for those of you who like glitter there is a hair gel called UPDO specifically made for performance hair styles and its got lots of glitter in it. It stays in hair better than spray or sprinkle glitter. I found my tube at Walgreens

    Re: Super long hair sisters!

I feel an urgent need to respond something to this thread. My hair in down to my knees and it's quite troublesome and impractical most of the time. My only "solution" to this is to keep it partially tied or in a bun almost all of the time. I make a loose "pony tail" with many hair donuts (like Princess Jasmine ;)) or leave some of my hair loose and hanging from the bun. I don't dance having all of my hair down very often.

A picture speaks a thousand words -- at least for someone whose first language is something else than what's being written. Excuse me for a strange transition pose in the first one but here you can see all of the hair and the costume. ,r:; The costume has no metal coins at the hip (death to the hair! ), only some sequins and bead loops (whaddaya call them). The second hair style has the bun as a base.

    Re: Super long hair sisters!

My hair was butt length... just had it layered and cut down to bra band length a couple months ago for the summer.

I don't use hair spray cause it feels icky... I just put moose in before I dry my hair.

For performance, I put do a bunch of those cute "vertical" style curls in my hair here and there and brush them out a bit so it makes my hair look wavy (cause it's sooooo fine and straight with no volume whatsoever). Then I'll either do a coordinating headband or I'll part my hair far to one side, pull the top bit back (so most of my hair is still down) and put a nice flower or something where the hair is pulled together at the top. These seem to work well for my long hair and don't take too much time.

    Re: Super long hair sisters!

Mine is knee-length (though I'm probably going to cut it back to classic--top of legs, like to the under-butt crease, lol--at some point). I've been trying to figure this out if I ever perform. I'd be afraid it'd get tangled in my coin belt! Am trying to figure out if there's some way I can pull it up to take off a couple inches (without resorting to a ponytail, which I can never manage to do right).

I would definitely go with little braids myself, but then I'm a big hippie. Falls might be nice too (not sure how you'd attach them with loose hair...maybe make the little braids and attach the falls at the top, or band together small parts of hair to make little ponytails and attach the falls to those?)

I would probably think about making my hair wavy-curly, though--wash it, then braid it into several small braids and take them out once it's dry. I did that once and it make me look like a wild jungle woman--fantastic.

I like the idea of pulling it back somehow--wouldn't have thought of that on my own. And I definitely get it in my face all the time if I wear it down (hence why I almost never wear it down! It gets in the way. I trust that in this thread, though, I won't hear what I get from most people when I say this: "then why don't you cut it?").

I've always wanted to do my hair entirely in tiny little braids. And then for dancing, attach beads and those little binty bells to the ends. Unfortunately, braiding all my hair would probably take hours (can't imagine the cost), and would start look nasty and fuzzy by the next day. :(

I have hip-length hair and like it best in a headband. I flat-iron my hair, and it is one length (plus bangs/fringe) with a blunt cut. It's very flattering.

Also, if you have the volume, a good part-updo with a braid is good. It can make for some dramatic turns.

    Re: Super long hair sisters!

Kat144, I just recently did that - cut from calf-length to upper thigh. My ends were getting straggly and I'd really like to be able to dance with it down...as it is I may have to cut a bit more to minimize the belt-snaggage. I'm still trying to get used to how 'short' it is now, LOL.

I dance ATS most of the time so it's usually up, but I am planning on making a cabaret costume so will need to come up with some solution. In the past I've done Central-Asian style mini-braids with a cool hat (could do the same with a headband or tiara). It does take awhile to braid (about an hour or so IIRC) but does give the 'swing' of loose hair without the snagginess. http://shadesofaraby.valizan.com/ima...-group-web.jpg (I'm in the middle; think I had 8 braids)

I'm also playing with the idea of twisting up and pinning multiple sections just a bit to reduce the length while still giving the impression of loose hair. Twisting the whole thing up with the length loose looks too ponytail-y for my taste, but doing little pieces all around the head might work.

Also have been playing with the idea of covering snaggy bits of costumes with something very sheer like tulle; probably not all that visible under stage lights but would hopefully keep the hair from catching.

    Re: Super long hair sisters!

I cut my hair off ages ago... I miss it.. :(

I have something similar to those hair swarovski thingies... I think it's the same, but a different brand? I got them at a market. They look really good, but you have to use a LOT of spray to get them to sit right once you've threaded them onto your hair, otherwise they flip over and don't sparkle.. Unless there's a knack to it that I just haven't got yet.

If you were wearing them on stage they'd probably be alright, just the occasional 'glint', but they do look a bit weird close up.

For what it's worth (they're too short, i think, for most of the girls on here :P) h Fibre Optic Hair Clip: Everything Glows! these are quite effective... The class I'm in did a charity event for breast cancer, outdoors at night, and some of us wore them.. They looked amazing.

    Re: Super long hair sisters!

I do not have super long hair --the hemline is V shaped with the back approaching waist, but the front barely bra band length. It is thin, fine, and very slightly wavy.

However, it seems to have just reached the point where it is seriously getting in my way. In particular, the front locks work their way into my armpits and then get tugged. It is particularly unpleasant when I'm dancing and sweating.

I have also noticed during some practicing tonight that those front pieces are suddenly wrapping themselves around my neck like a noose during spins.

This just started recently so its a length issue.

Is this a phase that will pass with a little more length? I'm not planning to grow it much past waist. I don't want it so long I can't toss and swing it around, or so long it gets tangled in hip acoutrements.

I'd like to tell you it will pass with length, but I can't say for certainty. I always kept telling myself, "when it gets a little longer it'll stay behind my shoulders!" Yeah right! Maybe I just have too much hair and not enough shoulders?

Unfortunately, as far as hair sticking to sweat, it'll only get worse the more hair you have, of course.

For myself, I keep my hair length just above the curve of my waist in the back. That way I don't have to move my hair for people to see what my hips are doing from behind. For you super-long ladies, I love the look of a fall (but with all of your glorious real hair). It's up, but full and falling down your back. Beautiful!
