Wings Without Sticks?
I love veil work, single and double circle veils but haven't gotten into the "wings" yet, simply because I do not like those sticks even though the overall effect of wings is beautiful.
So, here's my question, what happens if the wings are used without the sticks or is that the silliest idea ever? I was looking a gorgeous set online in irridescent gold that said "dowel sticks not included" and then they gave the size to buy. The wings aren't cheap, so I am asking my Isis Wings sisters and brothers for opinions on my idea before I buy the "wings with no sticks".

I have a black pair that I use without sticks. It looks and acts like a cape-veil. I get lots of compliments on it.

Re: Wings Without Sticks?
Towards the end of this video Bozenka flips her wings so she is holding the ends without sticks. It gives a nice effect.

Wow, you guys are awesome and the Bozenko clip shows exactly how the wings would look and act - it's a much softer effect and I'm all excited since I did work with a cape years ago.
Nisima runs off to site with wings...........g.:

Wow Zorba, what do you call those cool arm veil wingey-thingeys? Are they dancer-made or were they purchased?

Ditto Tamra Henna-I have pair of black wings and enjoy the look of them both with and without sticks. I had seen the video on youtube and liked the way it looked, so tried it at a performance and it was well received. Also, if the ceiling is not so high......they're perfect!

Re: Wings Without Sticks?
Of course she did!
Then had us make ours too. Think of a half circle veil, cut in half. Now you have a pair of quarter circles. Sew elastic arm bands thereto. One at the corner (fits at the very top of the arm), the other at a distance that reaches the wrist - leaving a tiny bit of slack in the veil.
I think "cool arm veil wingey-thingey" is an excellent name for them!

Re: Wings Without Sticks?
I *always* take out the sticks because the stiff effect they give does not suit my style.
That way the wings are handled more like an old-fashioned cape(which I loove)more swishy and soft.
