Spin off: super short haired sisters!
Here's a spin off for those of us with the opposite of the lovely long locked sisters (you guys are sooo beautiful). Lately I've been rockin' my glossy dyed black pixie cut for performance, styling my hair into a girly fauxhawk and glittered as all get out (for fusion numbers) and more sleek with a headband to match my costume (for more traditional numbers).
I find that having a strong hair color is key when wearing it short for performance, as well as pumping up the shine with glossing products and going over the top with styling. What we think is wild often doesn't translate the same way onstage or in photos.
Hairpieces are great for transforming one's look though mine is just a tad too short for a 3/4 wig or clip in right now and full wigs are just too itchy and hot.
I am taking advantage of having less hair by getting into making Moroccan inspired headwraps that are permanently sewn together and decorated with Kuchi pieces and coins. The one I've finished trails down the back and is sooo pretty. I'll post a pic soon, I promise!
What about y'all?

Mine was quite short for a while, and I either scrunched it and enhanced the natural curl, then wore a matching headband, or straightened it and added rhinestone pins for a sleeker look. Glitter hairspray is my friend!

I'm thinking about cutting most of my hair off again...and mine isn't even shoulder length right now.

Re: Spin off: super short haired sisters!
Oh, yeah, what I do with it? In the main, I actually do nothing. It's very short and I either make it very sleek or break it up a little. I decorate my head with makeup and earrings - I can really rock long earrings now. For modern orientale it seems right. It would cost an insane amount of money for me to get a custom fall - I don't like full wigs very much, though I do have one that I sometimes use - with no guarantee of looking good. So I just go out there with short hair. I've tried glitter spray (in silver - I don't do coloured glitter) but it seems to disappear in my hair, which is a shame.
I do like the idea of headwraps with long trailing scarves, a LOT. If I ever do the Am Cab thing I might ethnic-dance it up a la Aida al Adawi. I certainly always wear scarves of some kind when doing folklore, which can give me a long trailing tail of something like hair.
I've also considered turbans. They've got to be *right* though, and I think they only work for certain kinds of dance. I do have a little black velvet 60s turban (I've had it 20-odd years!) which looks good, but it also looks very Paul Poiret, especially when I put hat pins and feathers on the front, so it's limiting.

I shaved my head when i found out i had cancer then they told me i would probly not lose my hair. so now it is a couple inches long. i like it but for gigs i wear a wig. it does sound cute to put pins in it and clips when it gets a little longer.
