I also "straighten" mone by slicking it back in a low ponytail while wet and twisting it into a a big curl to the side and letting it air dray. It takes all day but ends up gorgeous!

Hee! It is the extreme version of what my old boss used to say when teaching us to blowdry hair - "using the head as a large roller".

This thread makes me laugh - I've spent two weeks learning techniques via youtube of how to curl straight hair sans heat.... I guess we always want what we don't have :)

oh, please do share!!

There are tonnes of videos (whad did we ever do before youtube?!) if you search curls no heat...some involve lots of pins, others socks, others paper bags (no really!) and if your hair isn't really long those work quite well.

except I put 3 in - one on top of my head and two either side (towards the back). Yes, I look like an alien with antena on my head but it is worth it and I do it before I go to bed.

I tend to put heat-protector serum in my bra-band-length hair, blow dry it until it's mostly but not completely dry, comb some smoothing cream through it, and then wind it into a bun and leave it up for about half an hour or so. This gives me loose waves.

How do you all get your hair to dry without taking two days? Because that is what my hair needs when I've done this.

^^ I let my hair dry naturally and THEN I add a bit of product (mouse or spray) and put it in wraps...if you do it any otherway your hair won't be dry in time (and this is when I do it overnight so it has time and body heat to dry the product)

I dampen mine (not completely wet) then sleep on it overnight (wearing a silk scarf to keep the wrap in place). You can also sit under a bonnet hood dryer on low setting for 15-20 mins - I haven't tried that yet. I guess that qualifies as a heat tool, but nearly so damaging as a hair dryer.

(I don't know how to show the video :)). It's an 8+min video tutorial.

Although I heard that using an ceramic ionic hair dryer isn't so bad, due to the ceramic which spreads the heat more evenly causing less/no damage to your hair.

Your hair can even learn to curl...hah.. On wikihow they show 9 ways to curl your hair: Foam Rollers, Braids, Curling Iron, Rollers,Hot rollers, Bobby Pins, Straighteners, Hair Sticks, Fabric/Rags and Knots.

When I had really long hair, I used to wash it and let it become almost dry. Then I'd braid it in two or more braids, leaving about 3 inches or so below the band at the bottom of the braids. Then I'd roll the ends of the braids in two or three sponge curlers. This was easy to sleep in, simple to do, and left me with cascading waves with curled ends in the morning.

I wish I could do some of this stuff... morning showerer... long, fine, hair too greasy after sleeping on it!
