    Cut my hair!

I'm so bored with my hair. Its been long for a few years now & I just want something fresh and different BUT I don't want to loose too much length.
    I've been pouring over hair pictures & they all look the same. I need some outside advice. Please suggest/post some pictures of hairstyles you think I could pull off. I've attached a recent photo of me to help out (overlook my dopey expression please!).,r:;
FYI my hair is thick, has body but not waves or curls, pretty healthy, color treated. I wash my hair 1-2 times per week, let it air dry overnight & blow it out the next morning. Then I just brush it between washings, or wear it pulled back. I don't use any styling products & would like to keep that to a minimum with a new style. I especially hate waxes & pomades near my face or skin.
Please help me choose a new hair cut. My appointment with my stylist is this Friday!

Hair's tricky. I cut mine really short over a year ago, and have just been dying to get it long again. I wish I was one of those dolls that kids have... you pull the yarn hair long then cut it, then you pull it long agin. Oh that would be nice... : ) Good luck with the decision. I like your hair.

I too like your hair very much. I've always wished I had long, thick dark hair. So I'm no help in making your decision. Do you have a hairdresser you really trust? Maybe you could go in for a consultation before taking the plunge and getting the cut.

I know what you mean! I pretty much have had one length; wash 2-3X's weekly; don't use any hair goo and just comb/brush out daily. Since having "the same hair" for a number of years, I let my hair dresser slightly layer it. It has been one length for many, many years and same thing, get bored with it. She suggested layering it and have still maintained the length. I also don't have the time to fuss with it and prefer to the "wash & go."

Okay, I'm going to mention the 'B' word....bangs!!! There are some good 'fringe' hair pieces out there that can be clipped to your hair in lieu of having bangs cut in. If you can get one fast, maybe your stylist can trim and shape it for you. That way you can change your look without the commitment. In the meantime, you just might need a super duper cleansing with shampoo mixed with a teaspoon of baking soda. It does a bang up job (bad pun, heh heh) of degunking your hair and bringing back it's bounce. Make sure you don't scrub your ends too much, just let the mixture sit there and dissolve the buildup. It will feel grody and slimy until you get all that rinsed out, then follow up with a good conditioner.

It's worked for me when I notice that my hair is driving me nuts and my usual routine isn't working. And hey, it's cheap!

Since you have straight hair I would cut a few inches off and then do a body wave. You will be really nicly surprised at how it turns out. My hair is alot like yours and i did that for a few years when I got tried of the straight. Nice then with a body wave is that if you let it air dry it waves different thean when you blow dry it. So you can have more than one look without alot of work.

    Re: Cut my hair!

As a former hairdresser I have to disagree with the idea of a "body wave". A body wave is a perm. It has to grow out. If you don't want to cut it, you're stuck with chemically damaged hair that gets worse and worse and if you're *really* lucky, a clear demarcation between the permed and non-permed hair. OTOH, if the "body wave" is a perm done on such large rollers that it gives you a very loose wave, it will probably fall out to nothing within a week or two, leaving you with "body" which you already have. "Body" used to mean "damage" btw. Damaging the hair is a way to get volume and malleability. Great in 1985, not so great today.

I'd need to assess your hair IRL but the obvious choices IMO would be:

Long layers shaped around the face
Long layers shaped around the face with a heavy fringe (bang)
    Colour.

    Re: Cut my hair!

Thanks guys. Bhuz fooled me, when I posted last night the phot was this nice small picture, now there's this giant beastly face grinning out at you! LOL. I do have bangs, long fringy ones with some face framing layers and I liked that addition.
Any pictures of cute hairstyles that you guys would suggest?I like these two

Semi-permanent hair color can be a fun way to get a fresh look without making a major commitment to a new hairstyle. It often improves the texture and shine of the hair, too.

    Re: Cut my hair!

I've had my hair long for so many years and a few months ago I wanted a change but wanted to keep the length. I just trusted the hairdresser to do something nice ;) She cut off a fair bit though (mostly cuz there was a lot of damage), but everyone's liking it so far!

I'm trying to upload a picture but my files are too big... and don't know how to make them smaller...

Maybe you can see it in my FB profile

You could always get layers and then you have the option to make it look like you have your hair bobbed. There are loads of tutorials on youtube....basically you are able to pin the bottom of your hair underneath itself and then the top layers are what forms your 'bob'.

    Re: Cut my hair!

I like your two possibles. I also think [from your tiny photo] that you could look really stunning in a bob or an asymmetrical cut. Your hair color is lovely.

I used to have long-ish hair. It was really down to the bottom of my shoulder blades, but as I have VERY curly hair, it was always massed up about 4 inches shorter. I went for a drastic cut - pixie-like, and it turned out to be a major improvement. So many people said it looked good, that I knew that my old style should have gone long long ago. So be daring!
