Viels
I'm looking for creative ideas for my first viel. My teacher is going to spend the next two classes doing viel work & I will be taking more BD classes, but I would like to get a viel I can use for practice & not spend a lot of $$. I am however crafty, but at the moment lacking a sewing machine...lol. So are there any options I have?

Re: Viels
Dharma trading sells nice un-dyed veils at reasonable prices. That's a great place to start. You can always dye it yourself later when you know what color you'd want.

Re: Viels
Why not ask your teacher for sources? If she wants her students to buy veils, I think she should also provide info about where to get them....

Re: Viels
We always used 3 yards of cheap chiffon for practice.

Re: Viels
you could probably find a nice fabric of either chiffon or maybe even a nice light silk at your local fabric store. If you don't have a sewing machine you could bring it to a local seamstress and have them hem it for you. Good luck.

Re: Viels
Check the bridal chiffon section at your local Fabric Land.
It's reg $10/m but you can get it on sale for as cheap as $3 if you check the sales and older stock. Right now they have some AWESOME colors, including some that look batiked.
*fyi- get 2-1/2 to 3m
It's nice to hem the two cut ends, but not necessary... you can "rip" the fabric along the grain, and just pull off any loose threads. It won't unravel.
Much nicer than curtain fabric (which can sometimes be too stiff)
Have fun!
