Thread: Flexible glue for stiffening cut outs?

Hi all,
Im making a cut out belt that I want to stiffen but keep the flex. Any ideas? Other than wire...

I'd use a really thick fabric for the base... I don't know exactly what it's called, maybe pellam or buckram, but there is this thick, white, stiff, felt-like stuff that you can get in the interfacing section of a fabric store. It works really well for keeping shape, but still bendable.

Have you placed any interfacing or stabiliser to the fabric in the belt? The interfacing will add body to the fabric, but will also have flexibility. I think that Lesedi is referring to a specific brand called Timtex. Timtex wasn't available for a while, but it appears to manufactured again. I'm not certain what is available in Japan. If you can get to a fabric store or store that sells sewing notions, I would go there and feel the interfacing and see how stiff/flexible your options are...

I'm attaching a link that a crafter put together comparing different Timtex alternatives. She was making bags, not dance costumes, but you can get an idea of the different aspects of the interfacing and stabilizers.
