skirt toppers and the like
how do you dress up your skirts? what types of skirts do you add an over layer to? I have some circle skirts I want to jazz up a bit.

I like to go the the thrift stores and find saris or other Indian dresses, rip them into panels and wear them in front and sometimes in back over circle skirts.

I am wearing a green sequin dupatta or Indian scarf, pinned in place over a silver circle skirt. This was also found at a thrift store (in the Yukon, of all places, believe it or not!)

What are the little shortie skirts called?
I saw a dancer who wore one, it was extra full (pleated), but came down only 12-16 inches. It flipped and moved a lot just below her hip line and was super cute. She had a regular long skirt under it.

I think I've seen what you're talking about on the Moondance site. There they just call them overskirts.

Re: skirt toppers and the like
I've been sewing these ruffled things, I haven't named them, but they are shaped to go just under a coin wrap or a cupped butt style belt, with a super full ruffle underneath. I think my next one I'm going to put 3 ruffles all in a row, for more swing and flip as I dance, but it looks cute even by itself. Sort of half an oval with ruffles along the curved edge, looks great tied in front, and at the sides. Knits work best, or other fabrics you don't have to hem.
I also love RoseHips and Geisheisha Moth skirt toppers, but they are more fusion-y in looks.
