Re: Check out this veil!
I did think of crystal organza but this drapes and moves in a totally fluid way and I think of organza as being not this fluid. Then I thought of something like an iridescent nylon knit or mesh, but haven't been able to identify such a fabric.

Re: Check out this veil!
It is gorgeous, but I think I'll disagree with organza, just because it seems to have some swing to it, and organza tends to be stiffer (like the wings). It also has some weight, which makes me think it's not tissue lame' or silk either, so I am going to go with a shimmer polyester chiffon? Why not email Shalah and ask her? Please post if you find out, for I am curious also! Mmmmm...fabric.... :-)

Guessing a fine (sheer) man-made fiber knit with a holographic finish. When she gathers in her hands it looks more substantial than a silk or organza would be and the drape looks different.

I'm guessing iridescent chiffon.

Re: Check out this veil!
I know that fabric (I think I even have some), but I don't know the name. It is a shear irridescent knit - but not too stretchy. I've seen it in purple/black/green, black/silver, and black/gold, and black/blue. It's like a crystal mesh. I've only ever seen it at a fabric warehouse that caries designer fabric.

Re: Check out this veil!
I have some of it. I bought the pieces a few years ago labeled as metallic chiffon, chiffon illusion, and sheer iridescent knit. I made a few skirts and veils from it and it does move nicely.
Edited: The knit version is also slightly to moderately stretchy, so if you are using it as a 1/2 circle veil, it will do some interesting things while you dance :)Last edited by mahsati; 03-21-2010 at 01:32 PM.

Re: Check out this veil!
Actually, a classmate of mine has a cross-woven silk chiffon veil that resembles this closely.

Re: Check out this veil!
Yes, me too. A friend of mine made herself a veil out of some and it looked a lot like this. The downside -- it's heavy for a veil. And it wrinkles easily -- she carried hers wrapped around a giftwrap tube. And it snags like crazy.
I have some in a goldtone with a sort of lacy pattern to it. I made a half circle veil, which is too heavy for the veilwork I like to do but has lovely drape to it. I also used it for billowy sleeves on a vest.
My veil has become almost too snagged to use for up-close work, unfortunately. You can see the big snag near the middle of the veil in this video around 1:05 too. It seems unavoidable with this fabric.Last edited by Lauren_; 03-21-2010 at 11:44 PM.

Re: Check out this veil!
I have meters and meters of that fabric stuffed in my dance fabric closet! It's actually a 2 way stretch mesh. I have it in black red, black blue, black gold.
Never thought of using it as veil fabric though.

Re: Check out this veil!
I found something like this in a Hancock Fabrics store this week. I thought it moves like mercury, like liquid metal. Might scoop some up for a skirt now that my sewing machine is working, but what I found is too heavy for a veil. Wish I could find the lighter kind.

Re: Check out this veil!
I used to have a black and gold veil made out of the same material...can't recall what it was, though.
