Tapering the waist on a dress -

I don't have a huge amount of sewing skills but I was wondering if tapering the waist on a dress would be difficult. I have a new costume but it is a little loose on the waist and I would like it to hug my curves more. Is this something that a professional should do or is it simple. The dress is lycra with beads. I can post pictures a bit later.

Hard to say--it depends on the dress and how much "taking in" it needs.

    Ditto that!

    Waiting for pics.

If it doesn't interfere with your bead work, I'd take in from the side seams, and zipper (if it has one). But don't know until we can see pics.

In my case, a big bean burrito will usually do the trick.

If there is no beading at the side seam it should be fairly easy to take it in there. Leave the original seam in place and just add a little more curve at the right place. The other way to do it would be to take in any torso darts front and back, again if they are not beaded over.

The easiest way to do this is to put it on inside out and safety pin where you would be making the seam. Turn it right side out and put it back on to make sure you like the look and the existing beadwork doesn't look funny. If it's good, go ahead and sew on your guidelines.
