    HELP ME! Stain on Skirt/Veil!!

    OMG NOOOO!!!

I pulled my WHITE skirt and veil out of my bag yesterday and there were these strange pink stains on them! I'm wearing them for a performance on Saturday!! THIS Saturday! Gah! Is it safe to bleach them?? Or use tide-to-go? My veil is silk, so I'm kinda scared to use it on that. The skirt is satin.

    Please help me!

    Thank you!

I guess I'd start with Woolite and if that doesn't work, try something stronger. If you don't know what it is, it may be something that comes out easily. I had a horrible experience a few weeks ago, where a gel pad ruptured and the gel soaked through my Bella! Woolite got it out- every trace. Good luck!

ok thank you for easing my fear, that sounds awful!! I'll try the Woolite. I have a theory on what it was. My costume I wear with it is hot pink, and I practice in full costume last night, wherein the last song I sweated my butt off. Maybe my sweat caused the color from my costume to bleed onto the skirt and veil when they were tucked away?

I'm just grateful it's white and not on another fancier color!

If the Woolite doesn't work, try Carbona Ink & Crayon remover. It's very good for getting pigments out of fabric, and it's more gentle than bleach. (I don't know where you live, but where I am, Kroger's and Hancock Fabrics carry Carbona stain removers--they're in little yellow bottles in different formulations for different stains.)

If that doesn't work, I'd try a weak bleach solution and rinse well immediately. Stay away from full-strength bleach unless you are at the absolute brink of desperation, since that can eat holes in fabric and turn some whites yellow.

There's also a RIT dye remover that I've had intermittent success with.

(The above solutions are good too, though I'd avoid the bleach as long as possible)

OH...and DO NOT heat dry until the stain is GONE. The heat from a drier can set the dye.

DO NOT BLEACH SILK. The bleach will dissolve the silk proteins causing the material to disintegrate.

The pink is almost certainly dye bleeding off of other costume pieces. You might try a product called reduran for cleaning up dye. It is safe for silk. Dharma Trading sells it.

Seconded - there is a warning on the Nahari silks website saying this exact thing - bleach will destroy your silk veil.

HI..Can't help with removal I fear, but yes, it will be bleed.

When i competed Irish, I used to have a dress, hot pink dec on white...well, til the first time I sweated in it. For some reason, the hot neon pink dye doesn't seem very stable.

    Good luck!

    Couple things:

    1. to reiterate, no bleach on silk.
    2. hydrogen peroxide solution might work.
    3. dilute white vinegar might work. silk loves acid.
    4. Some people recommend Dr. Bronner's for cleaning silk.
    5. you might try my mom's old fave of washing gently and hanging in the sunlight.

    however

I have to say that dye bleeding from another garment onto silk has got to be one of the very hardest types of stains to get out. While I wish you the very very best of luck, I would not be too surprised if you just could not get it out. :-( I am sad.

if you can't get the pink out maybe you can dye them a similar shade and try to mask it that way? Sorry this happened : (
