Decorating clear bra straps - anyone tried this?

    Hi

I am hoping to decorate some clear plastic straps with stones and hopefully some rhinestone shapes in metal settings (just cheap light ones from cheap costume jewelwry). Its a solution to a problem, I know its not an ideal situation, but its the best solution i currently have.

Anyway, what's the best way to attach things to that thin bra strap plastic (and I'm using proper bra straps not the thicker plastic that e.g. Eman uses)

    Anybody tried this

    Hotfix or hot melted mess?
Strass glue for solid surfaces - worry that will also melt the thin plastic
    Gem tac - it's not actually fabric . . . .

I know the answer is to try and see, but just wondering if anyone had any experieces to share . . . .

    Thanks

    Zaf

Plastic can be tough to work with. Not all plastics take glue well, and you'll have to find an adhesive that specifically says it can fuse with plastic and dries clear. If your straps have any stretch to them, you'll also want to add "flexible" to the list of drying characteristics, and it might not be a bad idea anyway.

Crazy glue may say it works on plastic, but it can leave a white haze, and I wouldn't recommend it, no matter how careful you are. I'd stay away from hot glue--I predict it'll lead to mess and heartache. I haven't used Gem-Tac, but according to the web site, it should work. I don't know how available it is in the UK, but I'd also suggest something like Amazing GOOP Craft or E6000, which are the sort of multipurpose adhesives crafters use to hold all sorts of hard-to-stick items together. You'll just have to read packages in the hardware or craft store, and experiment in an inconspicuous part of the strap when you get home. What works on one plastic may not work on another.

E6000 would have been my suggestion too.

This site has clear plastic bra straps with a double row of small rhinestones (scroll down the page)

Unfortunately what I'm using the straps for I can't just use pre-made ones, I'm fillling in a gap in chest/back band, plus I want to add my own design that fits the rest of the costume!

I am plannig to re-purpose some rhinestone stars from straps similar to the ones you linked to though!

I've only ever sewed items through the clear strap. Are you working with the elastic clear strap or the plasticky stuff?

You see I was worried that sewing and punching holes in it would weaken it and it would rip . .

I have both types (elastic/plastic), although the plastic stuff is of a more suitable length (then I can just sew on the metal bits rather than have to sew through the plastic) and also more clear

Its strong enough for what i need . . I'm only little!

I tried E6000 to no avail. The suckers slid right off after they were dry.
Eman uses outdoor plastic sheeting for her straps - I swear to god!
The great thing about that is that you can sew stuff onto it. The lingerie type that's stretchy won't hold up to sewing directly through it.
