    Avoiding back fat?

I have no idea how to actually wear a bra. Which proves a bit of problem when buying bedlah.

So 1, how do you know when a bra fits or not? I'm so used to sports bras and camis that an actual CUP bra confuses me.

2, how do you make the band tight enough to keep you in, but not so tight that you get disgusting back fat or underarm fat bulging out? Should the band be looser and the straps be tighter?

    thanks!

Yup! I criss cross straps, keep them tight, and make the band not so tight.

You can also wear a mesh belly cover. I have one that's nice and loose, but it's still good enough to smooth out a bit of back fat.

    This is what I like:
A wider band around the chest than usual.

Sew in an invisible strip of wide elastic for the hooks to go in(change often)so that the bedlah bra lays smooth against body but stretches when breathing. Not loose but with a little give.
This trick can be used on straps too.

Wide and shaped(wavy, curvy etc)bra straps instead of flimsy thin ones.

Deep and high cups that gives shape and coverage instead of making the audience nervous.
(too many shallow cups that´s cut just above the areola out there)

I agree with the above. Be careful, if you make the straps too tight and the band too loose, the back will just ride up.

    1) Wider band and straps will support better and give better proportion than narrow ones. I've widened straps by sewing ribbon underneath the strap, letting it show on each side. Wouldn't want to mess with a band that was too narrow, though, especially on the sides near the cups.

    2) Cups need to be deep enough. The *entire* breast should sit inside the cup. The underwire (or seam where the underwire would be) shouldn't be cutting into breast tissue, it should be sitting outside the breast. If the cups aren't deep enough, the band will always seem like it needs to be too tight.

    3) Sometimes I get a bra that just seems badly engineered and no amount of fudging around will fix it. Eventually you have to give up and sell those to someone with a different body.

    4) An L. Rose U-top or Turkish vest can hide a multitude of ugliness.

These are great ideas. I also have discovered how to deal with my own developing back fat: lateral pulldowns. They do help a lot by lifting up the muscles that support the back as well as converting that nasty fat to muscle.

You are aware that you can't actually convert fat to muscle, right?

My bad - what I really meant was that the lateral pulldowns lift up the muscle. A lax muscle can look like fat.

    Re: Avoiding back fat?

Back fat is like the last thing to go on me losing weight. For everyday I wear high backed cami that has lycra to smooth out the back fat. One of my street wear strapless bras has a thick nonroll elastic that runs from the side of the cups to the closure in the back and that means I dont have to fasten the chest strap so tightly, so less back fat ooze. For costume bras you could add the elastic or put some boning into the chest strap where it would be under your arms, then lean forward into the cup when it put it own and make sure all the breast tissue is in the cup. The boning will help hold it there. Keeping everything forward will help smooth out the back.
