Red face two piece belt question

    Hi,

sorry for the potentially dumb question but I'd like to know why 2 piece belts fit better? I'm pretty curvy in the rear and have been told this is the belt to make. Also if I'm making a 2 piece belt, what do I do to wear it? Does it just get pinned together? If it's sewn, how do you do it? Does anyone have any pictures of this?

    Signed,
    Confused

    Re: two piece belt question

With two pieces you can experiment around with the angle of attachment to adjust for your curves more than you can with a one piece. Also, if there is dramatic weight changes or if you sell, it is easier to adjust the belt while maintaining any symmetry of design the belt might have.

I usually stitch one side firmly in place (but with the ability to later remove the stitches if I need to change sizes) and have hooks on the other, open, side.

p.s. even with a two piece belt, if you are curvy in the rear you may want to look into making a belt that has "darts" in the back to better hug that curve.

    Re: two piece belt question

I get the belt on and pinned where I wanted it then undo one side and sew down the other with very sturdy thread. I use heavy duty hooks and eyes on the other side (4 of them, one at the top, one a the bottom and the other pair set in a couple inches from those). My teacher also adds a giant sturdy snap in hers as well, for extra security (something I plan to start doing as well).

I also sometimes make a casing of thread and run elastic through it to snug in the top of the belt some for the perfect fit.
