Smile What are you working on? - April

I can't believe that it's almost my lunchtime and no-one has started the thread yet!

I've just finished a quickie phaoronic costume and am working on a silver coin, sequin and bead bedlah. Photos to follow when I actually get time to take them!..l;,

Good call starting the thread. I'm working on the blue chunky airport special rehab. It's coming along nicely. I've been taking photos as I go, but I haven't had a chance to post any yet. I will soon though, I promise.

I can't wait to see your projects.

I'm just altering my new Nile Flower from Bellydancestore.biz. I moved the hooks on the bra last night, and a friend is helping me out with shortening the skirt (which is more of a pain than we'd expected, but it's working out).

I can't believe it's April already... I'm putting the last bits together for my bead embroidery workshops that I'll be teaching this Friday and next. Today at lunch I will be stitching on my demo sampler and tonight I'll pick up the last few needed supplies and finish the hand out. Most folks are taking the class next Friday so if I spot some rough areas, I'll have a chance to polish :)

Doing a duet with a new partner, and we just conveniently happen to have bedlahs in a matching blue. We're both making skirts to go with in light blue (with a bit of sparkle), plus bell sleeve-y things in white chiffon.

Rehabbing an old silver American Icon (the one without the fringe) -- creating new strappage and redeploying bra cups into a flattering angle and adding fringe. Pics to come.

I'm working on converting a Bella bedlah into the rhinestone beauty I had from Legend. Just got samples of the rhinestone chain in and am trying to decide which to get. I'm thinking I'll alternate between white and AB.

I have an egyptian belt to go over .. need to fix some loose sequins and beads and uncup the butt.
I have a 25 yard skirt that needs a different elastic and I really want to get my 2 bedlah tops to fit. If they are tight enough to hold the girls I can't breathe. I hoping to figure out something with elastic. SUGGESTIONS would be great......
I'm also working on the top of my Ancient Reflections cossie. I finished the belt.

I have three beginner costumes to finish up for some friends and then I HAVE to figure out a belt to match my red bra. :D Too exciting, though! And still trying to figure out what to do with this beautiful fabric I bought a ton of... LOL

I have been working on a green assuit piece, and have almost finished the skirt - doing a lot of hand sewing as the material has a tendency to break sewing machine needles after a minute or two of slow machine work.

I'm working on a cool mint and hot pink Samba costume. The bra is nothing but mint boa feathers all puffed up, the skirt will be a mini with a mint boa belt, mini hot pink skirt, and a long seafoam half skirt panel in the back. Will make some gauntlets and ankle wraps for it too! Then I need to make the headdress :D (which I will request Qamar's expertise with)

    I've missed you guys.

I'm rehabbing this costume for myself:

    Of which Artie says:

"How funny. This costume was made by an American lady *who was dancing in Egypt. It was never finished and went to another lady who sold it to me. I loved it and made flesh colored straps to look like the incredible floating cups. I wore it a lot and its on the back cover of my IAMED DVD, I think. I sold it to Bernie. It... is a gorgeous Vintage Orientale costume and deserves respect and good care! Enjoy! "

*Kathy (Kazmir Designs) is in Reading PA.

The top was just two cups..an a/b cups at that...progress thus far (not finished beading the cup area...but almost

    Startish:

    Now:

Local friend/Tribal Fusion dancer Anaan needs a new costume for the Sharron Kihara show next week...and wanted it to be inspired by the Dior pre-fall 2010 collection

    Album

One shot of the bra in progress:

Also doing a make-over on an animal print Mamdouh and finishing a few rehabs. Need to clear the table so I can do an original costume for Eshe and do more non-rehab originals for myself because I have a backlog of projects I want for me.

Eshta, lovely costume! I was wondering how the jacket works with the rhinestones on the bra. I own a pharaonics with a jacket option, but the rhinestones keep snagging on the fabric from the shrug. It drove me crazy, in the end I started wearing it without the shrug! If there's a trick to make them stop snagging I'd love to know!

The trick is no cheap rhinestone chain from China. That is what is on all the egyptian costumes. I am really lucky that my rhinestone wholesaler gives the swarovski to me at a good price and he and I have discussed the prong catching problem quite a bit. You might still have a couple catches but nothing like the cheap chain where the stone fall out.
Thanks girls! This one is my new favorite! I was thinking it could be done in diamond shapes, circles or stars also.

Working on a pink set for the Pink Ladies event I'm dancing at next weekend, I started yesterday and finished the bra today, or atleast mostly I need to get out my machine to make the *real* straps. Right now it's a halter neck but the band is soooo supportive (I made it out of a strapless bra that defied gravity) I was suprised how little pressure was actually on my neck.

Now I just need to figure out what to do for the belt and make the skirt, I got some black velvet off the clearance rack at Joanns so it's trumpet skirt time!

It's an old Jehlor pattern from the 70's: Al-Zahra's Ghawazee coat. I think one of the popular belly dance pattern makers still does this one... either atira or madame x.

i'm currently looking to do some major surgery on my red & black bedlah. i need to extend the belt meaning I have to find a matching applique and then make and bead the extension, buy and add fringe, and then rework the underbust to add some inches on to it. it's like 3 inches too small for me but couldn't bring myself to sell it :(
