Makeup suggestions?
Our big recital is coming up and I am debating how to do my eye makeup - input would be greatly appreciated!
Costumes:
Sequined gold top and belt with black, gold, and red harem pants
Burgundy red top and skirt with black fringe belt and silver coin belt
Afterward we are headed to a big party in Vail (I'm VIP!) so I have to still look awesome all night. Planning to wear a cute babydoll and jeans (aka Colorado Formal.)
I have dark hair, medium fair skin, and gold-green eyes. Most of my makeup is in the browns/golds category with greens and purples for good measure. I also have a multi-color eyeshadow pallete.
Ideas??
THANKS!!!

Re: Makeup suggestions?
I like the idea of smoky eyes in a rich brown. I often do rich brown eye makeup when I wear burgundy, even in day-to-day wear. But really smoking it up with some dark liner would make it nice and vivid for stage.

Re: Makeup suggestions?
actually, smokey burgundy would work as well..............azhia's smokey eye in her DVD is a WONDERFUL one-look-fits-all-color-choice-up-to-you technique! the burgundy would cover both costumes and will 'go', and for night would look smashing and make your eye color POP

Re: Makeup suggestions?
Ooooh! I love both ideas - do you think a rich brown accented with burgundy would look weird? I have a glittery gold eyeliner that I could accent the dark liner with (I love dark, smoky looks). Too out there do you think?

Re: Makeup suggestions?
it would work, but the brown needs a reddish/burgundy tone to it to work, and gold would look awesome! i use MAC's old gold pigment with burgundy which looks SO rich, and brings out the gold in the eyes (mine are green/gold as well)
and with your dark hair, the burgundy would be very becoming

Re: Makeup suggestions?
I love this idea!
My green/gold eyes really pop if I do a smokey brown/burgundy eye with a little metallic gold on the lid. ESPECIALLY if I use a dark green or bright teal liner.
Sometimes I use a very dark green liner all the way around and then a bright green or turquoise line outside that. Works well for stage, but might be a bit much for the party.
Don't forget a well-shaped and well-defined brow, with highlighter underneath. I like a shimmery white/gold highlighter. (Midnight Cowgirl from Urban Decay -- I use on my cheekbones for stage, too!)
And ridiculashes, preferably fake ones, but at minimum lots of black mascara.

Re: Makeup suggestions?
Lauren I LOVE LOVE LOVE Urban Decay - don't have much of the eyeshadow but I use my UD eyeliner judiciously!! I tend to go with the dark/black eyeliners since it looks good with my dark features (and my inner goth says to do it... listen to the inner goth). I'll definitely have my brows done before the show (hmmm I need to make that appointment.) I got lucky in the lash department - if I wear mascara, it looks like I am wearing falsies!
I have the day off - maybe I will go play dress up with all these ideas ..g.:

Re: Makeup suggestions?
Okay I played with three different looks and I'm going to go with browns and golds. My crappy eyeshadow palette burgundy just makes it look like I got socked in the eye. (At least there is a really good blush in that set otherwise I'd toss it.)
I seem to have a decent brown smoky eye down and a set of creme brown/gold glitter shadows pops up those colors nicely. I put a dark burgundy/purple/brown down as a base and built up from there, with a glittery black to make the outer corner more smoky.Thank goodness for the UD Heavy Metal glitter liner for the finishing touch! I'll also be hitting Hobby Lobby for some better eyeshadow brushes - my poor cheapo ones are starting to fray.
I am really glad I played dress up - I learned my eyeliner pen is drying up and I need to invest in a good liquid liner. Any suggestions? I prefer the crisp look of the liquid liner to compliment the waterline pencil liner. Looks like UD is the highest rated on Amazon, will put be back $20 but may be worth it. Thoughts? If UD is worth it, should I get the straight up black or the shimmering black? I only wear liquid liner for performance.

Are there going to be fluorescent lights? If so, just pile the makeup on because the lights wash you out. I have similar coloring as yours, and I wear dark smokey gray eye shadow, lots of liquid eyeliner and mascara and yes, make sure your eyebrows are defined. I also wear a deep red lipstick, usually Russian Red by MAC or Lush Red by Elizabeth Arden. And don't forget blush and foundation! If I'm really feeling spunky, I'll wear Eye Kandy over the eye shadow.

Athena - I love the last one! Thanks!
Fotia - it's an actual stage and who knows what the lighting in the club will be like (besides dark). I need to hunt down my old fave dark lipstick color, Toast of NY...
I'm taking a trip to the craft and makeup stores this weekend to hunt down some gold glitter and liquid eyeliner. Also per other posts on Bhuz I'll buy some artist brushes for eyeshadow.
Thanks all!!

I was just at WalMart, and they now have Hard Candy,Yay! A whole rack display of it. I bought 4 things, I think they were about $6.00 each. Lots of cool cheap glitter, if you're out hunting it!

Re: Makeup suggestions?
Cheery, Sally Beauty has cheaper cosmetic glitter - 99 cents for a little bottle of it in several colors. A tip I learned is you can use clear mascara or setting gel to apply glitter, or use lotion as a base, or add it to eyeshadow... you get the picture!
I also noticed they are selling an eye brush kit with changeable tips for $3... I may pick it up in addition to a few cheap artist brushes and will report back!

Re: Makeup suggestions?
Oh I almost forgot the most clever glitter stick trick I read about - aloe gel. For gawd sakes why didn't *I* think of that?? At least at our house, we have at least two bottles of it and a plant to boot (especially during the summer... accidental sunburn season!)

- Hobby Lobby has a set of 10 nylon paint brushes for $3.59 (clearance). All are flat but I figured that was a great deal to play with some brushes.
- Sally had a foundation brush on clearance for less than $3!! I used it last night to put on Cover Girl foundation (clearance at Ulta - $2) for a movie I was in (so the makeup had to be pretty flawless) using a technique I learned on Lauren Luke's YouTube channel YouTube - panacea81's Channel and it looked AWESOME. I was amazed! The foundation matches me perfectly right now, but come summer I will need something darker.
- Sally also had a cheap-o eye makeup brush set for $3 - interchangeable heads. I used the larger brush applicator on some cheap eyeshadow and it worked pretty well.
- A travel makeup box at Bed Bath and Beyond with the 20% coupon was $25 (cheaper than a tackle box!) and now holds all my makeup bling in a neat, organized way.
- Also got some UD liquid liner (my splurge) and gold glitter ($2).
- After laughing my butt off during the movie shooting (silly sleepy actors!) I realized that the UD mascara I got with some makeup sets is NOT waterproof, so I'll need to find some of that, but will just hit the 'ol grocery store aisle.
Re: Makeup suggestions?
Went shopping yesterday and thought I would post some finds in case it is useful:
Hope that helps everyone! I am zonkered today since I got home so late from the movie shoot, an my dance partner is laid up with a knee injury (don't want to finalize the routine without her input) so I may try to hone a makeup look.

I would also suggest if you can swing it to use MAC eye shadow and/or Urban Decay creamy eyeliner which you can also use as an eye shadow. They both have great staying power.

Re: Makeup suggestions?
Fotia I am using UD creamy eyeliners (LOVE THEM!!) and only got the liquid liner because I love that super-sharp look in addition to the smokey liners. I can't afford the MAC eyeshadows at the moment but ironically Physicians Formula has some awesome glittery sets that work well for me.

Re: Makeup suggestions?
Update for anyone who cares

I figured out a decent look with the eyeshadows I have but just wasn't very happy with how they layered on - face it, I've gotten spoiled with how easy the makeup tutorials featuring MAC and the 120 pro palette look. Even after a bunch of blending the colors looked kind of cakey and made my eyes look, well, old!
So as an intermediate to advanced graduation present I just placed an order for two Coastal Scents sets - the 88 shimmer palette and the 88 metallic palette. Both got high ratings on Amazon, the company is in the US, and they don't test on furry critters. $45 for both sets and they should arrive next week in time for me to finalize my look!
I also got Rachel Brice's Yoga Isolations and Drills DVD ..g.:

Re: Makeup suggestions?
Dunno if I am still talking to myself but figured I'd finalize this thread with the results.
I used the two Coastal Scents eyeshadow sets that I bought to create a beige/gold/bronze/dark brown smokey eye. This eyeshadow is INCREDIBLE. I adore all of it!!! Black eyeliner (waterline), bronze and gold eyeliner underneath and gold glitter eyeliner on top of all that. And liquid black eyeliner on top of course!
I wound up wearing my gold bedlah with a black and gold top to the CD release - was terribly comfy but was very glad to wash off all the glitter and makeup when we got back to the condo. 12 hours in makeup and NOTHING smeared, smudged, or faded. Hooray!

Okay, I uploaded some photos that show what I did. Not too good to show what my makeup looked like, but it's what I've got...
