in all seriousness, i don't prefer the aesthetic of seeing all the technical leg work during the shimmy sections, especially the choo choos. it was kind of like showing how a magic trick is done.

on the up side, this would be huge at comic-con!

I doubt very much that it's anime fusion. It totally fits the song, Ayila Tayha, which is typically shaabi song, which totally isn't about what it's about. On the surface it's a song about a lost little girl, with the singer asking have you seen her, this is what she looks like, this is what she was wearing. Of course it's his (grown up) girl that he's actually lost.

Oh, that's what that song is! I knew it sounded familiar. I have a more ''saiidi-fied'' version of it on a mix cd from a friend. Cool, thanks for solving the mystery!

Well, no, I agree that knee socks teamed with mini skirts aren't particularly attractive, but on Soraya - and for this song - I think its cute.

It's not my favorite costume-I'd look foolish if I tried to wear it. But knowing what the song is about, it's totally appropriate. And she is SO cute!

I'm just not a fan of short skirts for belly dance. Are those gauntlets on her knees?

It all strikes me as a bit desperate . She's a respected dancer and maybe she wants to stay "news".
Agreed the schoolgirl cozzy fits the shaabi song but it's all a bt creepy.
I do wonder if the upper class venue dancers are being inspired by some of the dancers lower down the peckng order. Maybe they think they look like they are having more fun.

I don't hate it on her, but I won't be emulating it any time soon.

I have worn a plaid skirt with knee socks recently and it was fun. But I wasn't bellydancing at the time.

She starts that dance as a flirty melaya number, its pretty cute.

As for the xena type one she wears carnival type costumes a lot, usually for drum solos, since she is also a samba dancer.

Dina also has a kind of "Xena" costume, but it's very pretty... Different from the one worn by Soraia...

The dina costume looked the most uncomfortble ever. saw it in real life about 3years ago...NOOO!
In Cairo you have to be cutting edge..costumes are a way to keep yourself being talked about. If they ain't talking about you, you are no one. You have to keep trying stuff. you can't turn up in a tasteful Pharonics number and expect people to rate you.

Neat! I was thinking it either had to do with the song or she was at a costume party or something.

I don't think it's tacky if it relates to the song. She's performing, she's telling a story, she's accenting the music AND the lyrics.

She's simulating hop-scotch jumping around 1:33.
