HELP bleached white veil now yellowish
So I am not the best at doing laundry and I have heard that some white fabrics actually yellow when bleached but this wasn't in the forefront of my mind... long story short my white veil is now cream and I was wondering if anyone else has done this and if there is a way to restore the original..c:: white to the veil or if I am stuck with cream

Yow. The standard thing to do to whiten something is use bleach, but if you've got fabric that yellows with bleach, more bleaching will make it worse. You could try an Oxy product or a blueing/brightener, but my personal optimism is low that you'll be able to undo at this point. (I'm still hunting for something that takes out benzoyl peroxide yellowing on white pillowcases myself.)
This site Overbleaching -- How to Remove Yellow Stains on White Clothing - Cleaning claims that the issue is with the finish on the fabric, but I've seen older garments that would have predated this technique and they've turned yellow for good. Dunno. They say RIT makes some products that will help. Good luck and post back if you find something that works!

Re: HELP bleached white veil now yellowish
I occurs to me that white silk yardage is relatively cheap compared to colored, so it might not be worthwhile to put too much into this. If it were I, I think I might buy some new white silk to replace the yellowed veil - and dye the yellowed veil some other color.
Just a thought,
R

Bleach dissolves silk proteins and should never be used on any silk or silk blend fabric.
You are lucky it isn't already falling into bits; it is probably severely weakened such that it will rip very easily.
You can dye silk easily with Jacquard acid dyes, but honestly I would not waste the price of dye on the bleached silk fabric because it probably would not survive the dye process.
I would keep it as a practice veil for as long as it lasts.

O! thanks for the advice everyone, I think one of my friends has some oxy I will try. It seems to still be very sturdy so I might try dying it. It is my restaurant veil anyways, pretty enough for an entrance but cheap enough to leave on the side of a chair to finish the set ;) I guess I should count my lucky stars it is still in one piece!
