    New caftan pattern from Vogue

    This is Vogue pattern #V1181.

Has anyone tried it? It looks promising...

that's interesting. I kind of don't like the bat wing aspect of it though. I am going to try Butterick 4789 Unisex Caftan pattern this week with a few modifications. We'll see how it goes. Butterick 4789 Unisex Caftan, Tunic & Pants 1996

You say batwing, I say art-deco and yummy. That butterick 4789: you might like the Folkwear Egyptian shirt or Syrian dress (short) better.Folkwear Sewing Patterns: Caravan styles But then again, you might not :)

It's basically the same thing. I have a huge book detailing the patterns of central asian and med clothing for the last 400 years so I could always use that to draft a pattern. You'd be surprised how many panels there are in those caftans!

I'm sort of intrigued by the possibility of blinging that upper seam line with glitzy trim and swingy tassels, and then I think, "No, it would still look like a sack...a really glamorous, fancy sack."

FYI, Hancock Fabrics is putting their Vogue patterns on sale for $3.99 at the end of the month.

Not TOO surprised. I bought a couple of Max Tilke's books for a small fortune thirty years ago and am still slogging through them. But now one is free online!

Hmm, I'm getting that Vogue pattern.

I can never follow a pattern anyways. I have to go getting all crazy and changing it around so that it ends up not resembling the original pattern at all.

If a pattern is attractive enough to me to purchase it, I force myself to do the first version by-the-book in scrap fabric, so if there's something to be learned from the designer's original pattern I'll learn it.

Poiret would probably put something more substantial on the top.
