Help me bling out a basic gold bedlah...any ideas?
Hi Ladies, so now that I've Sold the higher end gold Egyptian bedlah (to a troupmate) and I will see it, I either want one in my size or I was thinking of attempting to bling out the basic set I have, but I have NO idea where/how to start. What I have in-house currently is about 45 rectangle AB stones, that's it. Thoughts, Ideas? What should be my approach?
ADDED: My orognal pics of my thought have disappeared: I was orginally thinking something like this Gold Sequin Jewels & Fringe Egyptian Bra & Belt In Stock Belly Dance Costume - At DancingRahana.com since I had one but it was too small or something simple like a great loop (but with fringe) https://www.dahlal.com/ctl/showcostu...1_close_lg.jpg
ADDED: the elastic as shown in the picture below has since been removed. b/c it gathered way too much, but the belt still doesn't lay right.
BASIC SET TO BLING:

THE BELT LOOKS LIKE THAT, CAUSE AT THE TIME I HAD ELASTIC IN THE WAIST, I TOOK IT OUT NOW

Whatever you decide to do, if you need to wear this while working on, then embellish with a plan and to it in small even bits so that you can wear it while working on it.
One easy thing that would add a lot would be to add some interest to the fringe, just like in the set you sold. You replace sections of fringe like in your example or add strands of fringe with pailettes or add a second layer of shorter fringe to the belt or add clusters of fringe to the belt.
Another easy thing could be to add some rhinestone chain along the top edges of the cups and top edge of the belt. or use the rhinestone chain to make a wave or spiral pattern on the bra and belt. You could then build on that design a little at a time.

costume applique rhinestone crystal chain trim 1 yard - eBay (item 220576870036 end time Apr-21-10 08:50:46 PDT)
Or this seller - I've had great luck with this seller
GORGEOUS CRYSTAL 3 ROW RHINESTONE TRIM BANDING - F03 - eBay (item 300395739658 end time May-10-10 20:50:27 PDT)
Like the idea of adding more texture to the fringe. There are always appliques. . . depends on what look you are going for.

I did an upgrade on mine by adding 3 appliqués on the bra:
... and a big one on the belt:
I made the appliqués, but I also have seen very pretty ones in fabric stores or online vendors.
Don't forget to send before and after pics!
Me like ur slippers BTW!

I am just about to start blinging a basic gold set too. Mine has the diagonal fringes on the belt. I'll try to remember to take pics. I am still in the 'what am I going to do with this' stage.

Re: Help me bling out a basic gold bedlah...any ideas?
what about "chunky" style beading? it adds texture to even the most basic sets. also try playing around with the fringe. experiment with different fringe placements, or buy some darker copper/brown fringe to layer over the gold (like on the set you sold)

Re: Help me bling out a basic gold bedlah...any ideas?
Wow that is almost exactly like the one I bought! My first... I am a more simple gal so I strung six sets of beads - three for each side looped from front to back - to give it a little interest. Medium reflective gold discs had been added to the belt and front fringe as well. For me that is plenty but maybe it will give you ideas?

Okay, I really think we need to posts pictures of our befores, progress and afters for Blinging Basics. SaNoorah, this is your thread so what do you think? A separate thread maybe? So we can still gather ideas on this thread?

Re: Help me bling out a basic gold bedlah...any ideas?
ok, I'm back to this again ladies. any new thoughts?
also, the belt, being that it's 1 piece really doesn't fit well. any suggestions on how to fix that? basically the upper hip doesn't lay on my body, but when I had the ealstic in, it was too much.

How about using some of these great Czech rhinestone buttons I've got over on the Retail Swap Meet as accents, and winding rhinestone chain around them?

Re: Help me bling out a basic gold bedlah...any ideas?
Check the amount of elastic you have in the belt. Looks like it may be too tight.
As for bling, you need to be clear on what you want. I am almost tempted to suggest a line of chunky beading along the top of the cups and belt, then 4"fringe in the bra cups under the chunky beading. This is short enough that it will not make you look any smaller, but will give movement to your slightest shimmy.

Re: Help me bling out a basic gold bedlah...any ideas?
jordon you are too funny, thanks Chica. I may take that thought and change the colors a bit.
I was orginally thinking something like this Gold Sequin Jewels & Fringe Egyptian Bra & Belt In Stock Belly Dance Costume - At DancingRahana.com since I had one but it was too small or something simple like a great loop (but with fringe) https://www.dahlal.com/ctl/showcostu...1_close_lg.jpg
That's not in stone, I'm open to ideas. Not sure I want to change the color entirely since I would like to have just a "basic" gold bedlah, and I love how the sequins on this changes colors with the light. This right now is just too plain.Last edited by SaNoorah; 08-13-2010 at 06:26 AM.

Re: Help me bling out a basic gold bedlah...any ideas?
I've never upgraded a costume before, so this might be a stupid question. Do you have to remove the beads and sequins when adding the new decoration, or do you just sew it on top?
