Foundation for the body
Dear dancers,
Could any of you help me with recommendations for body products that are sort of the equivalent of foundation for the face?
Basically what I need is some sort of cream, spray, etc, to even out the skin tone on some body parts that are exposed and tone down some flaws.
Also tell me about your experiences and anything you think I need to know.
I don't know if this is relevant, but I have fair skin and I love it as it is... so any tanning and bronzers would be out of the question.
Thanks! :)

Re: Foundation for the body
Dermablend is the thing for heavy coverage. It will hide bruises, tattoos, etc. I don't think you'd want to use it over large areas, though.
Sally Hansen makes some kind of spray-on stuff that's supposed to be like foundation for your legs? Only I've been told you have to spray it into your hand and then rub it on, otherwise it just makes a giant mess. So what's the point of it being a spray?
If you just wanted light coverage, I wonder if it's cost effective to buy really cheap foundation (thinking Wet N Wild or similar) and mix it with moisturizer to make your own tinted body moisturizer?

Re: Foundation for the body
Someone mixed some body make up for our troupe and I have a rest in the fridge. She used to use it herself, it makes your skin look velvety and sort of more dressed, especially when you're not tanned. Now she doesn't bother anymore and I'm afraid she won't mix it soon again for she's rather busy...
It's the cheapest and easiest way really. It's oil and pigment and something else, she said all the information would be in the internet and occasionally she'll show me how to do it...
Then it's filled into a spray bottle and it's very easy to apply. You have to let it soak in for a little while so it won't stain the costume, or use fixating silk powder on top, but I didn't need that the last time.
I learned from her that if you aren't lazy to gather information and learn how to do it, do-it-yourself can produce excellent results.

Re: Foundation for the body
I second Dermablend. I'm pretty pale and I've used it to cover bruises & pretty large sunburnt areas.
I use the leg & body stuff that's like a liquid foundation & the setting powder and haven't had a problem with it rubbing off onto costumes. If you go to Ulta, they'll help you try out different shades to find a match.

Re: Foundation for the body
I really like the Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs. I'm not tanned, but this gives me a touch of nice color and covers any little blemishes or bruises nicely. Looks even better when I spray the Sally Hansen Airbrush Shimmer on top!
Doesn't seem to rub off on costumes. Then again, I wear mostly darker colored costumes.

Re: Foundation for the body
I use the Sally Hansen stuff on my legs. Ben Nye makes some stage makeup that is lilke pancake makeup for body. You use a damp makeup sponge to apply. I use it on scars and age spots. Recently I ordered some
Cover Fx makeup from Sephora. It is made for scars, rosacea, cover tattoos, etc. Not sure I would use much on the body as its pricy. Try the Sally Hansen stuff!

I second the pancake makeup for any type of performance shows especially in theater, and yes Ben Nye is specifically for performers :D so it's designed to stay put and is thick enough to handle even the hottest lights and performing.

Re: Foundation for the body
I also use the Sally Hanson Airbrush Legs. Works great for smoothing out tan lines or just give a little color in the winter. But if you want heavier coverage, then I'd go with the Dermablend.
Haven't had an issue with it rubbing off. I usually spray it closely on my body then blend it in with my hands.

Re: Foundation for the body
I will try the Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs. I don't need to cover up anything serious like scars or tattoos. Do you guys just use it on the legs, or the whole body? Can I find it at a regular supermarket?
Also, I see a few of you mentioning that it gives you some color... what if I don't want color? I'm pale and I just want to even out my skin tone, I don't want to look "warmer."

Re: Foundation for the body
Get the Sally Hansen stuff in your skin tone. That way all you will have is an even matt finish.

Re: Foundation for the body
how warm or cold you look depends a lot of the light in which you are dancing, what type of light and how strong it is.

Re: Foundation for the body
That's true... basically I just wanted to make sure that this Sally Hansen product is not meant to make your skin look darker, though. I've never seen it or tried it so I have no idea if it's supposed to be more like a foundation or a bronzer, and from some comments I was getting the impression that it could possibly be the latter.

I use sally hansen, they have a super pale shade that might work for you (it was too light for me). Drugstores carry it for sure.

Good thread Yame.
I love the SH Airbrush legs, but can't seem to find it for the last few years. Where are you ladies purchasing it?

Re: Foundation for the body
i like the dove summer glow, it's very lightly tinted self bronzer; it doesnt give you a tan really, but just a little glow... it works for me, but i think you are paler then me so it might not? i dont know if they have a line for really light skin.
and if it's really to colour in certain lighter or darker spots, i'd go for derma blend if you want to make darker areas lighter (i sometimes need to use it for bruises, i bruise easily), or foundation to make lighter spots match with the rest of your skin tone
but for all over evenness, try the lightest version of dove?

Re: Foundation for the body
I´m an NC15 with legs that have very visible blue/green veins+dark hair so that pores are noticible even when I´m newly waxed...:(
On my shoulder/arm that has café au lait spots I use Joe Blasco(similar to Dermablend and Ben Nye)
Ordered 3 cans of Sally Hansen´s Airbrush Legs in "Light Glow"(the lightest that didn´t work for Ezma)
let´s see if it does it for my legs!
Thank you for the tips Bhuzzers<3

Re: Foundation for the body
I am a big fan of MAC Face & Body foundation (comes in plastic bottle). Very light, can be layered, slight, ever so slight sheen.
