Costume-bra malfunction :(
Hi ladies,
Here's a problem that's been happening to me lately: part of one of my boobs starts to show from unrderneath the bra after I've been sweating... I guess the sweat makes it "slide" down?? My bras fit me nice and tight and this problem has repeated on different costumes... and it's only on one side... it never happened before, so I don't understand why all the sudden this keeps happening... I test my costumes before every gig so I know they fit right... even then, I sometimes have this issue.... ..c::
Has this happened to anyone??? what do you recommend?? Please HELP!!

Re: Costume-bra malfunction :(
I've had the same problem. A dance teacher and another dancer who designs costumes told me that problem is due to the bra strap (beneath the cups) being too loose. The hooks on my straps were then adjusted 2-3" and I have not had the problem since. It is a very tight fit and it slightly restricts my breathing but no more boobage coming out the bottom. I hope this works for you.

I bra that fits nice and tight to try on or even wear during one song will shift during a full show. It sounds as if your band underneath/around the back is not right enough for the rigors of a full show. I'd 1) make it tighter and 2) consider adding thread casing/elastic to the sides. This helps it stay snug but allow for breathing.
Let us know how it goes!

I would think that the band isn't tight enough too. SamiraShuruk's idea of adding elastic casing sounds good.

Re: Costume-bra malfunction :(
If the band is loose enough to let you slide two fingers between the band and your body, it's really too loose to do it's job. The straps are holding up too much of the load and lifting the cups slightly - and away from you. That's how you "slip".
If, however, the band is tight enough, you CAN'T slip - there's no room for extra flesh between the band and you!
To help with the breathing with a tight band, you can wiggle the band up beneath your breasts as high on your rib cage as possible. The lower ribs can expand then, even if the upper ribs are somewhat confined.

Re: Costume-bra malfunction :(
Yeah, I just had to make my bra strap tighter after my initial movement of the hook, because when I tried dancing my recital routine in it, it slipped on me. I was a little surprised at how tight it needed to be, but it looked good, wasn't uncomfortable, and did its job!

Re: Costume-bra malfunction :(
THANK god for this thread. I just had minor underboob on one side for the first time in my life and I was wondering what the hell I could do to stop it. It probably needs to be tighter - and sweat may have been a factor too.
I am sooo horrified but I think it's reasonable to guess that - it must not have been that noticeable (or possibly happened after I left the stage) since I was looking at people's faces and didn't see them change - and even talked to an audience member (former bellydancer) at length after the show - and you'd think that dancer-to-dancer - she would have said something.
My first thought was - go home and ask WWBD?

I do a new bra in class while teaching, sweating and bellowing for an hour. The heat will take it to max expansion, and then I set the hooks with the help of a friend on site.

Re: Costume-bra malfunction :(
I find that halter-style bras are more likely to slip than shoulder-strap bras. This is because if the back strap is not super tight (or if you are slightly down on your weight that day), then the back strap can slip down your rib cage and allow your cups to slip up!
If you tighten your straps and still slip, then you might consider trying a different style bra with shoulder straps rather than a halter strap.
Also, if you pad the bottom and outside of the bra cup, it tends to hold you better in the cup. Padding might help keep you from slipping out as well.

To prevent any slippage, my studio swears by Pow'r Tac Spray-On Tackifier. You get it at sporting goods stores in the baseball section. You spray it on the inside of your costume and give is a few seconds to start drying before putting it on. You can dance for hours and it will still be holding.
