The New Blingaholics Anonymous Thread!
My name is Lisa Carrara SatinWorship Nour, and I have a problem ..l;,
I know there was a Costume Addicts thread awhile back, but I can't seem to find it.
How's everyone doing? Who's been a smart shopper? And who's fallen off the wagon?

Re: The New Blingaholics Anonymous Thread!
Hi I'm Erin eden_eyes "Calypso" and I'm doing great! At one point when I was working at a hotel, I was buying fabric and sillies right and left, and then I quit because the school semester was ending and had an income of...very little, which helped me overcome my addiction thus far. As of right now, the only blingies I've been buying are the leftover materials needed to finish my current costume project :) go me!

Re: The New Blingaholics Anonymous Thread!
The title of this thread made me laugh because it made me think of when I went shopping for jewelry to go with my recital costume, a month or so ago. I went to this little shop that sells cheap but blingtastic jewelry. I found myself looking at a lot of things and thinking, "No, not obscenely gaudy enough. Where's the GOOD stuff?" I was disappointed that the REALLY blingalicious items were only available in white metal, not gold. I ended up getting the gaudiest gold-and-rhinestone necklace they had available, which did work pretty well. :)

'hey, I don't have a problem, I just wanted this one bedla, just this one.....I can quit any time, ya know?' LOL
Hopelessly addicted, although, I have finally released my vice grip on some costumes, posted them for sale due to space issues....if I don't sell a few more soon my space issues will take over and then I'll need like a "horders" anonymous thread too..l;,

Re: The New Blingaholics Anonymous Thread!
Good for you!
I, on the other hand, need to quit. LOL. Just bought 3 Joharah's at Princess Farhana's workshop in Miami....one just isn't working, and the other two have "Dina" bras, which I swore off after buying too many that didn't work. They are all beautiful, and the price was right - but I won't be surprised if they all end up on the Swap Meet!
Moral of the story? Snickers bars, tabloids and Chapstick are normal impulse buys. Costumes? Not so much

Hi,
I'm luna and I'm new
Well, I've bought my first pro costume 2 years ago, then bought a second one a year ago, a third half a year ago and well, I already bought 3 costumes in the last 4 months and I'm already screening the swapmeet daily for pretty ones in my size...

I haven't danced in awhile due to an injury but I have a costume in my closet that I have yet to wear and I get really itchy to wear it! In the meantime, I still buy all sorts of glitter accessories. I am dying to buy that perfect gold bedlah I've been looking for but so far have restrained - and it's biting me in the butt!

Re: The New Blingaholics Anonymous Thread!
yeah, I can identify with that one too- I like shopping the antique malls- they usually have some really horrifyingly gaudy stuff for good prices. <<enabler alert!!!>>
I've been pretty good- I only bought that one costume 'cause I really did need something that covered my breastfeeding-engorged boobs- and it was a fantastic price... I managed to not order more fabric or jewelry (I think it's the first spring recital in my dance career when I haven't purchased more rhinestones for the show!) but I did succumb & shell out another ludicrous amount for makeup. So, better, but needs improvement yet... sigh.

I'm also learning that cheap "fixer-uppers" are NOT really a bargain if you buy $200 worth of crystals to bling them out with.
Damned champagne tastes!!! ..l;,

Hahahaha!! DeNyle is just a river in Egypt!
We have an enormous Oriental Plaza just half an hour from my house, so I spend entire Saturdays going through all the little shops picking out the greatest earings - so off course earings need bracelets, I have no costume to match the earings I just bought, so I start hunting for new beads and fabric for the great costume I'm going to have and there I find the most wonderfull beaded fringe that goes with nothing else I have....
I think you get the idea.
Please send straight-jacket!!

Re: The New Blingaholics Anonymous Thread!
Yes, that's how it starts, LOL! .w.: I went from buying one before my first gig (so it would be there when I was ready..l;, -- turned out to be a beautiful workhorse, good investment, so that was justified, right?) Quickly escalated to one a year, then two a year ..... then I met Debbie (Dahlal) and her Bellas .... it was all over .....

Re: The New Blingaholics Anonymous Thread!
I'm bad. I'm not a pro, yet have bought way too many nice costumes. I have 7 that I haven't even worn in public yet! (plus all the ones that I make) I am soooo addicted to buying lovely, shiny costumes! I've been good lately though. My job situation is unstable, so I haven't bought any costume type stuff or fabric for over a month. I'm going to keep trying to not buy anything else... starting with NOT looking at the swap meet! I might even sell a few. Anyway, I'm Lesedi and I have a problem... I'm such a magpie/bingaholic!

Re: The New Blingaholics Anonymous Thread!
why yes, yes I do have a costume inspired by & built around a set of red earrings...
I think I realized I had a problem when a) I looked in my costume drawer and said "oh yeah, I remember that one. I really like it. I forgot all about it." and b) when I counted the number of finished costumes & realized I have more costumes than solo gigs in a year. Troupe performances don't count 'cause there is a whole 'nother wardrobe for that.

All you Egyptian dancers need to try Tribal. The costumes are way cheaper ( but not as flashy ).

Re: The New Blingaholics Anonymous Thread!
No they're not. By the time you add all that cool stuff in your hair, 4-1/2 tons of Kuchi jewelry, "cake stack" Tribal pants, and some kind of tattered chic skirt/veil/whatever "thing" around your hips, you're still out a bunch.

Not that I'd know anything about that, of course... ..l;,

I want a picture of every costume we talk about on this thread. I am Jessica "nayastrance" and I am a blingaholic. I love costumes. I buy them, I swap them, I sell them. I love costume porn and need to feed my addiction, therefore I want to see a picture of every costume we talk about on this thread. :)
I just sold a purple venus
I need to replace it with something but not sure what yet.

Re: The New Blingaholics Anonymous Thread!
I have tried tribal:
ATS cossie-
$80 tiered skirt, $20 bloomers, $40-$100 belt, $20-$40 choli, $60 bra, $20-$100 hair garden, $20-$100 jewelry=$260-$600
granted, it does not *have* to be that much, but neither does oriental style
(ps- was I supposed to include the lapis belt & necklace in my list of transgressions? Ooops! I had forgotten about those little purchases...)

Re: The New Blingaholics Anonymous Thread!
Me next! I'm a bling-a-holic...Specifically when it comes to making costumes. I'll spend hours shopping at fabric/art stores online and in person when I have a costume idea or two. I've been known to spend a few hundred dollars of these homemades (although it's done in $20-40 increments so it doesn't hurt as bad). I've currently got 3 self-mades on the books and no more! I should be sent to be done with all these by 2012. ..l;,
I also have a true weak spot for Pharaonics. I just bought one of those beautiful butterfly costumes!...But I am such an addict that I had to put it on layaway. ..cr.: Not only that but I have a custom order with Hanan that I am waiting on. .w.: When I pay those two off I will buy a silver bedlah. There I said it!
I also have a tendency to think about troupe costumes before I think about troupe choreos!
I'm terrible (but clearly not alone).

Further, I have NO idea about any new Eshta and/or (alright, AND) Bella orders. No idea whatsoever. And that leopard pants costume that might be back up, nope - no clue. And anything that Amartia is selling - pshhaw! Utterly clueless.
I'm innocent I say! Innocent!!

Re: The New Blingaholics Anonymous Thread!
I am not a blingaholic. I did not just spend my lunch money for the week on beads for a costume I haven't even started designing yet (and it's not a gorgeous mix of amber and cranberry).
I am also not mourning over the beaded fringe I am currently making, and not thinking it would look better with AB bugles instead of plain ol' silverlined crystal.
Furthermore, I'm not googling for tribal costumes to ease the tedium of beading said fringe.
And if you belive that, I have a bridge I'm trying to sell...

Re: The New Blingaholics Anonymous Thread!
It's so good to know I'm not alone! My husband isn't earning an income right now, but we decided that I have a few $$ per pay for lunch, coffee, that sort of thing. Somehow, my lunches seem to come from the fridge at home, and the office coffee maker is getting a workout....
And I have beads and fabric.
It works for me!
