Dance show
I'm performing in a dance show and it just occurred to me that maybe I should be more covered. It's a dance show with ballet, jazz, modern, you know that kind of show. I was asked to be a guest dancer. I was planning on wearing a bedlah with a sparkly belly cover. Do you think that's ok? (Maybe I'm over thinking this, I tend to do that.)

Re: Dance show
imo you should wear the costume that says "belly dancer" to the gp. no need to be more covered than normal. they asked you to perform your specialty because they want to see your art. be confident and shine :) ...besides, leotards are pretty revealing and tights don't leave much to the imagination either

Re: Dance show
No, you do what makes YOUR dance look best. Those ballet dancers will be wearing tights and leotards that are millimeters thick, probably. Sounds like a regular proscenium stage; with that "fourth wall," you can actually get away with less coverage because of the setting.

Re: Dance show
I danced in a show when I was the only belly dancer. There were a lot of lyrical and jazz dancers; there was also some ballet, hip-hop, and tap. I wore dress that has one of the shoulders missing to show off a decorated top, so I was pretty well covered. I was the most conservatively dressed out of all of the dancers, including the little kids. Everyone knew that I was a belly dancer just because of the sparkles.
What you plan on wearing sounds great. From what I've seen, a lot of modern dancers wear those little night-gown things with shorts.

Re: Dance show
I think your bedlah will be fine. Modern dancers show loads more skin than the average bedlah. Hip-Hop dancers use much more suggestive moves than the average belly dancer, too .. but that's a different topic.

Re: Dance show
yheah, wear something that says "I'M A BELLYDANCER!" that way when they see your classy dancing they know what to identify it with ^_~
i danced with a troupe of bellydancers at a fundraiser that was mostly modern and lyrical, with some jazz tap and ballet. the audience was mostly the parents of those kids. My teacher's 4 yr old daughter danced the taqseem in tamr henna (long skirt and spagetti strap tank top, before anyone asks ^_~) and we did the rest of it in bedlah. they loved it (and this was in much closer proximity than a proscenium.) you'll be fine in bedlah.
