Dance Shorts--Make them or Buy them?

Where do those of you who buy your dance shorts get them? What vendors have a good colour selection? Has anyone made some? What fabrics do you find to be the best for dancing? Any opinions on boyshort style vs. brief style? I am wanting some to wear under my petal skirts and split circle skirts. What I normally use are swimsuit bottoms but I am having trouble finding colours I need.

American Apparel sells (hot) shorts in a variety of colors: Cotton Spandex Jersey Hot Short | Panties | Shop American Apparel
I've got their shiny metallic ones in gold and silver, which go with almost every costume.

Check out your local department stores, I've gotten a few pairs that I wear from Nordstrom. I have both briefs and boyshorts, and both work, I really go on the color. I think the lowrise is actually more important so they don't peek out over the top of your costumes.

I have bought some online as well for unusual colors, I think this is the vendor I used:

    Dance Shorts and Briefs

But if you google dance shorts or dance briefs lots of sites come up. L. Rose designs also makes custom dance briefs:

I like Capezio boy cut shorts, available from Dancewear Solutions:
Boy Cut Shorts - Capezio - Dancewear Solutions

They are nylon and spandex, and come in alot of colors. Because nylon can be dyed with Jacquard acid dyes for silk that I already have, I am going to try dying a white pair to match a costume.

In the ballerina world, sizes tend to run small. I take a medium in these and wear a dress size 6.

I make mine. I made a pattern by tracing some boy shorts. I get matching lycra and voila!
I do not hem any edges, btw, to help eliminate lines. The legs can't be too long or they roll up, so sometimes I cut them shorter in the front.

This would be why and how I came about owning some gold-glitter dot boy shorts!..g.:

Oooooh! I do have some red glitter dot that would work. I ended up bying some assorted lycras and metallic foils to make my own. I already have a swimsuit pattern that is perfect.

That sounds fun, but isn't it itchy? Does it bother you?
