How do you D & DD gals store & carry your bras?

Each time we gig, I know my cups are mashed in my rolling carry-on. I'm wondering how youall carry and/or store your bras. Storing isn't so bad, since that's at home, usually with more space.

I'm starting to think I need to support the cups from the inside when I tote it around. Suggestions?

I know some of my troupemates just fold the heck out of everything, but I really don't wanna do that.

I bought the thickest bra pads I could find at Joanns and I just tuck them inside the cups when I travel. The pads are already the shape of cups so they keep the bra in its correct shape then I just pop them out when its time to dance.

I guess I don't know what bra pads are. Please elaborate?

I have never noticed a problem. And I wear heavy Egyptian and Turkish bras.

The only thing I might suggest is to make sure your costume brs is on the top of what is in your bag, ie: the last thing packed.

Yeah, I construct all of my bras pretty heavily, I actually only have this problem with one of my costumes.

They are like a piece of foam in the shape of a bra cup but they are thick so they fill the inside of the cup. If you check Joanns fabrics in the bra making section you will see them. I'm not sure if this is the one I bought but its the only one they have a pic of on the website:

I have seen those. Beyond thinking they were a too-small size, I didn't take in the possibilities, thanks.

I wear the bra to the gig and biff it loosely in a bag afterwards, replacing it with my normal bra. That's it!

I sort of coil bras up when I put them in bags, and don't put anything on top of them. You might find a couple of pairs of socks help fill out the cups.

Just go to craft stre and buy 1/2 foam balls! They are cheap and fit right in the cup. You can also use them when stiffening up a cup when you are making it.
    Not to mention you get great looks in the craft store while holding a 1/2 foam ball next to the girls to see if it the right size,r:;

I roll up my skirt and put it in one cup, all my props and make up go in the other, and then use the straps like a back pack ;-)

The bra cups are usually strong and thick enough to not collapse. I usually have to stuff 2 sets of costumes in a small suitcase, but never had a problem. To save space, I actually roll up the straps and put them in the cups, as much as possible. I guess that also serves as a tool to keep the cups in the same shape.

If you're passing a construction site, they also work as tandem hard hats.

I know this is kind of off topic, but every time I read the title of this thread, I keep thinking reading it as "D&D gals".
....Which, I mean, I guess bras can be used as impromptu dice bags?

Re: How do you D & DD gals store & carry your bras?

Bending the cups is pretty bad for the beadwork and can stress it out. If in a rolling carry-on type bag, I pack the bra in the middle and then pack things in and around it (veils, socks, etc.) in order to support the shape... bra pads are a good idea though.

Nyyrikki - don't say that too loud, or we'll have all kinds of roleplaying boys in here hoping to make time with some bellydancers. ..l;,

As far as my costumes go, I have each piece in a separate little plastic bag, which then goes into a large silver purse, which then goes on top of the rest of the things in my case. I haven't noticed too much of an issue with the bras myself.

At home I store the heavily beaded ones in plastic shoe boxes. When en route I wrapped them in a towel. That way nothing will get stuck to the jewels, and the towel helps to fill in the cups.

Wow, I can't imagine getting my bra into a plastic shoe box without seriously squishing it. Maybe I should give it a go, though, and try rolling it ....

I recently got plastic tote boxes with handles on the top to transport my costumes. Then they don't get crushed and still fit inside my bag/suitcase.

Idea isn't mine though, saw another dancer using it at an event and thought it was brilliant. Plus I can stack them in my armoire. ..g.:

I am so in love with my hat boxes- bras fit nice, belt coiled around it & skirt coiled outside that. I bought a bunch of inexpensive ones, but havea couple nice vintage ones too.
